  1. School bully says sorry to victim
    (taken from NSTP 7/3/09)
The fourth former, known as "Kong" among schoolmates, also hugged Md Ribi Mohd Isa, 50, and his son, Mohd Azwan, who was injured in last Thursday's incident.

Kong also kissed the hands of officers from the state Education Department after a meeting at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Lepar yesterday to resolve the issue.

Teachers present also broke down on seeing the emotional scene unfolding before them.

District Education officer Yahya Zainal Abidin said both parties had agreed to settle the case amicably after an hour-long talk.

"It's now up to the victim whether to retract his police report as we cannot force him."

Yahya said Kong would be transferred to another school in Paloh Hinai where he would have to attend a special session with a counsellor.

"He comes from a broken home and we must find ways to change him into a better person."

Yahya said the department would also help bear Azwan's medical expenses and give special counselling to help him forget the traumatic experience.

In the incident last Thursday, Azwan was scalded with a hot iron by Kong for refusing to buy a pack of cigarettes.

    -MY COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE-
before this,i already posted about the same issue. But the different is, the School bully had says sorry to victim in one occasion that held at that school. From the police investigation the school bully is came from the broken home.Maybe because his stressed,he bullied the others.i am impressed because the states Education Department and the school has taken the good steps to resolve the issue.I am sure after this there will be no more revenge among them..Hope thats others school also take the same steps to banned the bully in our country..

  2. What causes cancer?..

Doctors often cannot explain why one person develops cancer and another does not. But research shows that certain risk factors increase the chance that a person will develop cancer.
Many of these risk factors can be avoided. Others, such as family history, cannot be avoided. People can help protect themselves by staying away from known risk factors whenever possible.
If you think you may be at risk for cancer, you should discuss this concern with your doctor. You may want to ask about reducing your risk and about a schedule for checkups.
Over time, several factors may act together to cause normal cells to become cancerous. When thinking about your risk of getting cancer, these are some things to keep in mind:

    • Not everything causes cancer.
    • Cancer is not caused by an injury, such as a bump or bruise.
    • Cancer is not contagious. Although being infected with certain viruses or bacteria may increase the risk of some types of cancer, no one can "catch" cancer from another person.
    • Having one or more risk factors does not mean that you will get cancer. Most people who have risk factors never develop cancer.
    • Some people are more sensitive than others to the known risk factors.
One of the common factor contribute cancer is Sunlight
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation comes from the sun, sunlamps, and tanning booths. It causes early aging of the skin and skin damage that can lead to skin cancer.

    In order to prevent this, there are several things highlighted by the specialist;

Doctors encourage people of all ages to limit their time in the sun and to avoid other sources of UV radiation:

    • It is best to avoid the midday sun (from mid-morning to late afternoon) whenever possible. You also should protect yourself from UV radiation reflected by sand, water, snow, and ice. UV radiation can penetrate light clothing, windshields, and windows.
    • Wear long sleeves, long pants, a hat with a wide brim, and sunglasses with lenses that absorb UV.
    • Use sunscreen. Sunscreen may help prevent skin cancer, especially sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. But sunscreens cannot replace avoiding the sun and wearing clothing to protect the skin.
    • Stay away from sunlamps and tanning booths. They are no safer than sunlight.

    My comment:

So this is the time to use the umbrella. Even it is not so cool for guys. But a healthy skin is even better than a burning faces...
You should also consider to have a uv protecting cream in your pockets...

  3. GREEN TEA....

    Green tea and cancer

Green tea helps in fighting as well as preventing cancer. Cancer is lower in countries where they drink lots of green tea. EGCG inhibit cancer by blocking the formation of cancer-causing compounds and suppressing the activation of carcinogens. It also inhibits cancer cells from growing. Green tea helps in fighting bladder cancer, breast cancer, esophageal cancer, pancreatic cancer and colorectal cancer

    Green tea and diabetes

People who drink lots of green tea or coffee every day could lower their risk of diabetes by 33 percent. Green tea polyphenols and polysaccharides are good in the reduction of blood sugar. The researchers who conducted test on rat concluded that results clearly show green tea intervention can significantly decrease visceral fat deposit and increase insulin sensitivity.

    Green tea and skin care

It is anti-bacterial and helps in fighting acne and reduces inflammation. It protects the skin from the damage caused by ionizing radiation and aids in detoxification.

    Green tea and weight loss

It helps in boosting metabolism and burn fat. It has thermogenic attributes which helps to raise the body temperature and burn calories up to 80 calorie daily. It also helps in fat oxidation. It helps in weight loss without raising heart beat.

    My comment:

Green tea is one of the best medicines. It is good because it is herbal and does not contain any chemical substances or drug unlike medicines. It also has many benefits such as preventing cancer, protect skin, burn fat, lower risk of diabetes and others. Green tea is cheaper than other medicines or herbal. We also do not have to worry for the side effects of this herbal because there is a lot of research on it. I think people nowadays should practice this green tea in their life because it is good for our health. It is better than we spend a lot of money to buy medicines.

  4. If one day you feel like crying...
    Call me.
I don't promise that I will make you laugh,
But I can cry with you.

If one day you want to run away...
Don't be afraid to call me.
I don't promise to ask you to stop,
But I can run with you.

If one day you don't want to listen to anyone...
    Call me.
I promise to be there for you,
And I promise to be very quiet.

That is a true friend. Always beside you even in any situation. A true friend is someone who is there for you when he'd rather be anywhere else. A true friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out. For me, it is hard to find the true friend who really understand you, appreciate you and care about you. If you have true friends, think of them and be grateful for the gifts they bring to your life. The most important thing to remember is always appreciate the friends that you have. A fight may come and go very easily, but a friendship could last forever.

  5. British English vs. Malaysian English

Who says our English is teruk? Just read below - Ours is simple, short, concise, straight-to-the-point, effective etc.

WHEN GIVING A CUSTOMER BAD NEWS
Britons: I'm sorry, sir, but we don't seem to have the sweater you want in your size, but if you give me a moment, I can call the other outlets for you.

    Malaysians: No stock.

    RETURNING A CALL
Britons: Hello, this is John Smith. Did anyone call for me a few moments ago?

    Malaysians: Hello, who call?

    ASKING SOMEONE TO MAKE WAY
Britons: Excuse me, I would like to get by. Would you please make way?

    Malaysians: S-kew me.

    WHEN ASKING FOR PERMISSION
Britons: Excuse me, but do you think it would be possible for me to enter through this door?

Malaysians: (pointing at the door) Can ah?

    WHEN ENTERTAINING
Britons: Please make yourself right at home.

Malaysians: No need shy shy one lah!

    WHEN DOUBTING SOMEONE
Britons: I don't recall you giving me the money.

    Malaysians: Where got?

    WHEN DECLINING AN OFFER
Britons: I would prefer not to do that, if you don't mind.

    Malaysians: Don't want lah.

WHEN ASKING SOMEONE TO LOWER THEIR VOICE.
Britons: Excuse me, but could you please lower your voice? I'm trying to concentrate over here.

    Malaysians: Shut up lah!

    WHEN ASSESSING A TIGHT SITUATION.
Britons: We seem to be in a bit of a predicament at the moment..

    Malaysians: Die lah!!

    WHEN SOMEONE DID SOMETHING WRONG
Britons: This isn't the way to do it. Here, let me show you.

Malaysians: Like that also don't know how to do!

    WHEN ONE IS ANGRY
Britons: Would you mind not disturbing me?

    Malaysians: F you!

So which would you prefer? Send this to your Malaysian friends and let them have a laugh too. Good day!

The above is an e-mail thingy which compares the ways by which English are spoken by Englishmen to the Malaysian community. It is mentioned that the latter is so-called simple, short, straight-to-the-point etc. Although the contents are meant to be a joke, but as we can see here, our way of speaking is indeed effective. Who cares if you speak English like ‘I don’t want to layan you lagi’ or ‘ketua will hantar assignment hari tomorrow’, through opening your mouth and saying words, be it a mixture of languages, dialects and slangs, or even accompanied by body languages, as long as you accomplish what you are trying to do, it is absolutely fine. You see, the purposes of speaking are to establish a mean communication, to get messages across, to share thoughts, to express ourselves and to give instructions. Lastly, I would like to share a tip, for daily conversations and presentations in English, just worry about getting the messages across and making people understand what you are trying to convey, you can screw the grammar, as long as they make sense, the whole picture will come together in the listeners’ minds, for instance, the movement of your hands as if you are touching the surface of a sphere, accompanied by a kicking action and the mention of the name ‘Ali’, would suffice for the audience to get the message of ‘Ali kicks ball’.

  7. A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them
fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit
was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The
two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit
with all their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop,
that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took
heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down
    and died.

The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again,
the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He
jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the
other frogs said, "Did you not hear us?" The frog explained to
them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the
    entire time.

    This story teaches two lessons:

    1. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging
word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it
    through the day.

    2. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes
    to kill them.

Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your
path. The power of words... it is sometimes hard to understand
that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speak
words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in
difficult times. Special is the individual who will take the time
    to encourage another.

-with words,we can make people happy..
-with word also,we can make others hurt..
so, watch our tongue, when we say something..
we should not hurt other people with words that is not supposed to come out..

  8. Youth in the modern world

From the mass of newspaper, magazine and broadcast stuff about
"modern youth", some evaluation ought to be possible. The fact is, however, that the
commentaries are made from severely limited viewpoints, almost never from the
social one. When they are not Christian pronouncements (or, occasionally,
psychiatrical ones: the Sunday Pictorial recently advocated cuddly toys as therapy for
mixed-up adolescence), they are heavily loaded either sentimentally or culturally—
either assuming that youth is necessarily admirable, or arguing from antipathy to rock
'n' roll. Nor is the sympathy disinterested: the emancipated adolescent is a source of
income to all kinds of people.
And this leads to the real point. Has youth really gained in freedom? The modern
teenager has, for a probably maximum of five years, some financial independence,
and he is no longer bound by former conventions. On the other hand, he is delivered
whole to the greedy commercial class to dress up in, swallow, read and recreate
himself with their gaudy mass-produced rubbish. The sad thing about such a
phenomenon as rock 'n' roll is that the adolescents who jig and bound to its
metronome rhythm think they are letting their hair down, whereas in fact it is being
held down firmly in a fixed position by the film and record companies and other
    interested parties.
The belief that modern youth has generated for itself a separate culture is at bottom a
mistaken one. True, there are all its appearances. Basically, however, adolescent
behaviour is only the juvenile (and therefore cruder-looking) version of the culture-
pattern of the grown-up world of modern capitalism. Adolescents are given to showy
display of dress and possessions: but this is the world in which conspicuous
consumption is equated with "higher living standards".
The place of violence and greed in the present-day world should be mentioned, too. It
is fairly obvious that youth wanting to claim grown-up privileges will see physical
and sexual prowess as the things to show; and equally obvious that so far as
unscrupulousness, brutality, and general disregard for human personality go the
grown-up world provides precedents and examples in plenty. One does not have to
think only of the Bomb. There are the well-known facts of How to Get On in the
World—the ruthless treatment of other people and the morality that ends can justify
all means. It used to be pretended to the young that honesty was the best policy; now
nobody tells them anything so patently at variance with the facts of life.
For all the attention demanded and given to him, the adolescent has not gained much.
Release from one set of circumstances and conventions has led only to others which
seem hardly more desirable; the "mixed-up" young person is a creature of this time.
And the truth is that there can be no emancipation for anyone, in the real sense of the
word, in the society in which we live. The emancipation of women, of slaves, of
empire-trodden peoples, has meant in actuality only freeing them from one kind of
bondage to secure them in another. What is the matter is not the young people or the
old people, but the organization of society: the only freedom which can mean
anything is freedom deriving from common ownership of the means of life.

[edit] StepsLike all exceptionally great students, you must pay attention! When a teacher is giving a lesson, take notes and if you don't understand something, raise your hand and ask. The more questions you ask, the smarter you'll get, believe it or not. By passing notes and talking to friends, you won't learn anything, so pay close attention!
Review your notes when you have free time.
Take some time to write some problems up, or you could ask someone to write them for you. Just remember, it doesn't hurt to go over what you have learned.
Do your homework. Teachers give you homework for a reason. It is to review what you have learned that day. Take advantage of your free time. If you really want to be a successful student, you should know right from the beginning when you want to be great at anything, you have to put up with things that just don't seem fair. Doing your homework is not a big deal. Remember, homework can also help you develop good habits and attitudes.
Be prepared. Bring everything you need with you to class. Books, folders, pens, pencils, homework, review sheets etc. whatever you need it would be a good idea to bring it.
Get organized. Keep a folder for each subject, and yes, you put your math papers in your math folder, you put your Language Arts papers in your Language Arts folder, you put your science papers in your science folder, and so on. It would really be a good idea to color code or label your folders.
Study. It would be a good idea to start studying a few days before a test. Make a study schedule. If an extracurricular activity gets in the way of your studying, tell the person in charge of that certain event, that you will not be able to attend that event, or you will have to leave early. However, there will be certain situations where you will have to attend whatever it is. In this kind of situation, you will just have to study another day. This is where your study schedule comes in. Write out a schedule of the week of your test and find your free time. Always remember, use your time wisely.
Start to read a little more. If you are not already a reader, start at your level and work your way up. You may not know this, but by reading more challenging and difficult books, you are expanding your vocabulary.
Ask a parent or older sibling to look over your notes and create a mini-test for you 3 days advance of your test. You should always want to study before the night of your test.
Use of mind maps can be helpful for understanding hard topics.

[edit] TipsAlways go for extra credit even if you are getting a 98% in that certain class. You can always do better.
Stay focused. Everyone knows school can be boring, but you have got to concentrate on getting focused. Keep your eyes on the teacher, keep your ears open, and take notes. Taking notes will help you think and help you understand what is being taught more.
Sleep! Sleeping well is essential to keep you concentrated on classes and also on your studies.
Rewriting notes taken in class is helpful if taking exceptionally hard classes. (Ex. law, economics, engineering etc.)
Lessons are fun if you pay attention and listen to what the teacher is saying, and if you know about that topic you will feel good, and if you don't know about it, maybe you should study it a little.
Find out your learning style (ex.visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.) and look online to find out about study habits that match your learning style. You'll be surprised at how much easier it is! But be sure to answer the quiz questions truthfully.
Also, find out if you are a left brain or a right brain. Left brain is organized, logical, rational. Right brain is intuitive, lets feelings go, sees things in an abstract way. If you take a quiz and discover you are both, no worries! Lots of people are.
Stop studying and let your brain rest for at least an hour before you go to bed, if you overwork your brain it will not process information properly.
Also remember that psychological studies have shown that people tend to forget much of the information learned in the last ten minutes before falling asleep. So you should do something else before you go right to bed after studying.
time management is the most important thing

[edit] WarningsWhatever you do, do not procrastinate; don't put things off. If you do, you will have to rush on that certain project, and you probably won't get the grade you deserve. If you procrastinate for a test, you will have to review what you will be tested on in a short amount of time.
Don't freak out if you get a bad grade on a paper. Everyone (including high level students) get bad grades once in a while. It's not the end of the world. Just try harder next time.
Above all, don't cheat. Cheating doesn't teach you anything at all. Plus, if you get caught, you will get into serious trouble. It's not worth it!
Sometimes being an excellent student can lead to unpopularity or people thinking that you are weird. Do some sports or socialize once a while. This actually expands your mind even more.
Be on top of your grades. If your school has online grades (Skyward) then check every other day. That way you aren't surprised when you get your progress report, and know if you forgot to turn something in, need to work on something or if a teacher entered a grade wrong.

    The Hollywood dream

"I'M MAKING a movie for the international market."

This has been uttered by many ambitious Malaysian producers.

Unfortunately, most of the films don't even get screened in Indonesia. And for local producers who are dreaming of screening their films in Hollywood, my advice is this: keep on dreaming!

There have been several Malaysian movies shown internationally but only at film festivals in limited screenings. None was shown in the cinemas.

Among them were Gubra, Mukhsin and Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang. Even Puteri Gunung Ledang was shown in Berlin though at a special screening.

Metrowealth Movies Production's horror flicks Jangan Pandang Belakang and Congkak were the only exceptions. They were were shown in the Philippines and did average business.

Why is it difficult for a Malaysian movie to break into most foreign countries?

Unlike Malaysia, where foreign films can easily come in, almost all other countries, including Hollywood, are protecting their film industry.

In fact, our neighbour Indonesia is doing the same. That is why Malaysian films can't be shown there.

The only way in is through co-production. The best examples were Diva and Tipu Kanan Tipu Kiri. They were joint productions between Malaysia's Astro Shaw and Indonesia's Tarantella Pictures. Unfortunately, both films bombed in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Grand Brilliance Sdn Bhd had to remake its hit romance, Cinta, for Indonesia. To enable it to be screened in Indonesia, Grand Brilliance had to use an Indonesian cast and crew.

The only Malaysian production shown there was the Thai version of Cinta Kolestrol in 2005, called Cholesterol Teerak.

The only way to get into Hollywood is by investing in a Hollywood production. There should be make a changes of the style of making movies and try to learn from Hollywood's movie.

  11. Today, I went to read some news when having my delicious breakfast. I found that an article which is about some people complain about the step of applying the English language into the teaching of science and mathematics subjects. The title is 'TEACHING OF SCIENCE AND MATHS: No reason at all for a switch '.

In this article, the groups who oppose the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English have three complaints.

    1. Bahasa Malaysia is the official national language and should be the medium of instruction to teach all subjects.

    2. Rural students have difficulty in learning these two subjects in the English language.

    3. Having difficulty teaching the subjects in English.

For the first complaint, the government officer Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye of Kuala Lumpur has clearly addressed the first issue on the status of Bahasa Malaysia and the English language by writing a letter to the newspaper companies. In the letter, he stated that "It's a reality we cannot afford to ignore". This means that he felt afraid this issue will cause a mess among the society. The letter has defined the role of Bahasa Malaysia as the official language that unifies the multiracial population of Malaysia.
Furthermore, he said 'Learning and using the English language will not make us less nationalistic'. This information has solved the complaint completely.

As for the second one, the English language has to be learned as it is an international language for science and technology, business and commerce. For rural students facing difficulty in understanding the two subjects in the English language, the matter has been blown out of proportion because the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah, Penilaian Menengah Rendah and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination results show that rural students fared better or were on a par with urban students in these two subjects.

The argument that rural primary school children do not have an English background and, therefore, face problems in understanding the two subjects is logical and acceptable.

However, this problem has been addressed by the intensive one-year programme devised for Year One pupils to acquire English language skills to prepare them for learning Science and Mathematics in English.

The programme, called the Early Literacy in Teaching English (ELiTE), focuses on the integrated approach of teaching the English language with Science and Mathematics elements. It advocates the teaching of language before teaching content to Year One pupils.

In conclusion, this complaint is just a small matter as a good program is processed to handle the problem.

As to the final issue of teachers facing problems in teaching the two subjects, the letter "Teachers hold the key" from V. Thomas of Sungai Buloh has criticised the Education Ministry and the education system over the selection and training of those teaching Science and Mathematics.

The ministry and the Curriculum Development Centre have organised courses, workshops and seminars for teachers to help them teach the two subjects in English.

When the policy was carried out, ETeMS (English Teaching for Mathematics and Science) courses were conducted nationwide for primary and secondary school Science and Mathematics teachers.

The teachers were given training for weeks and evaluated, and those who did not meet the standard were sent for refresher courses.

Then there were the Buddy Support System (BSS) courses conducted for English language teachers in primary and secondary schools.

The BSS course provided support courseware in the form of CDs, grammar books, dictionaries and scripted lessons for Science and Mathematics teachers.

Language and pronunciation problems encountered by Science and Mathematics teachers were looked into by English language teachers in the schools.

There were other in-service courses conducted for Science and Mathematics teachers, such as immersion and six-week conversion courses where teachers facing problems in teaching the subjects were given training and support.

These courses boosted the teachers' confidence in using English to deliver content and to manage teaching and learning of the two subjects in the classroom.

Also, the ministry rewarded the English language teachers with allowances -- five per cent for graduate teachers and 10 per cent (for non-graduate teachers based on their pay -- for helping the Science and Mathematics teachers.

The Science and Mathematics teachers were also given the allowance to encourage them to improve their skills.

To say that the policy is half-baked and that Science and Mathematics teachers were not properly trained by the ministry to meet the challenge is unacceptable and inappropriate.

Therefore, there is no other ground for backtracking on the use-English policy. As I was a part-time teacher in a rural primary school, the teachers there actually do not face any problems in teaching although sometimes they pronoun the words wrongly. But, they will become better with the courses which are organised by the government. These courses are fixed for teachers once every year. Their ability are examined and improved by getting the new knowledge from the experts.

In my opinion, there is no any objection in the application. I am looking forward in the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English to improve the standard of education in Malaysia. I hope teachers and others will accept and move forward to complete this step.

When you were 18, she cried at your high school graduation. You thanked her by staying out partying until dawn.
When you were 19, she paid for your college tuition, drove you to campus carried your bags. You thanked her by saying good-bye outside the dorm so you wouldn’t be embarrassed in front of your friends.
When you were 20, she asked whether you were seeing anyone. You thanked her by saying, “It’s none of your business.”
When you were 21, she suggested certain careers for your future. You thanked her by saying, “I don’t want to be like you.”
When you were 22, she hugged you at your college graduation. You thanked her by asking whether she could pay for a trip to Europe.
When you were 23, she gave you furniture for your first apartment. You thanked her by telling your friends it was ugly.
When you were 24, she met your fiancé and asked about your plans for the future. You thanked her by glaring and growling, “Muuhh-ther, please!”
When you were 25, she helped to pay for your wedding, and she cried and told you how deeply she loved you. You thanked her by moving halfway across the country.
When you were 30, she called with some advice in the baby. You thanked her by telling her, “Things are different now.”
When you were 40, she called to remind you of a relative’s birthday. You thanked her by saying, “you were really busy right now.”
When you were 50, she fell ill and needed you to take care of her. You thanked her by reading about the burden parents become to their children.
And then, one day, she quietly died. And everything you never did came crashing down like thunder on your.

So, if your mother is still around, never forget to love her more than ever. And if she’s not, remember her unconditional love and pass it on. Always remember to love your mother, because you only have one mother in your lifetime.

    A Moment to Remember

    A magic moment I remember:
I raised my eyes and you were there.
    A fleeting vision, the quintessence
Of all that's beautiful and rare.

I pray to mute despair and anguish
To vain pursuits the world esteems,
Long did I near your soothing accents,
Long did your features haunt my dreams.

Time passed- A rebel storm-blast scattered
The reveries that once were mine
And I forgot your soothing accents,
    Your features gracefully divine.

In dark days of enforced retirement
I gazed upon grey skies above
With no ideals to inspire me,
No one to cry for, live for, love.

Then came a moment of renaissance,
I looked up- you again are there,
    A fleeting vision, the quintessence
Of all that`s beautiful and rare.

  14. Assignments, lectures, tutorials and presentations really give me pressure as an university student. At first, I didn’t know that stress may have relation with disease. But when I read an article, I discover that many discoveries from the experts show that stress really have something to do with disease.
The relation between the stress and the disease is an interesting issue for every person who wishes to maintain health. Stress determines the hormone release which leads to vasoconstriction and diminishes blood circulation. Affected by stress, the heart slows down its activity, breath becomes quick and superficial and digestion is slowed down. Almost all the body's processes are in disorder. The psychosomatic studies show the way in which stress factors can cause headaches, hypertension, nervous break-down, some peptic ulcers, etc. Researchers estimated that 80% of the diseases are caused by stress. The relaxation therapy through massage can help counterattacking all these effects.

  15. To all my friends, the future engineers!!! Take your time to read these.. It just take a while… Remember!! Laughter is the best medicine…

    >>>Three engineering students were gathered together discussing the possible
designers of the human body. One said, "It was a mechanical engineer. Just
look at all the joints." Another said, "No, it was an electrical engineer.
The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections." The last
one said, "No, actually it had to have been a civil engineer. Who else would
run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?"

    >>>An engineer was crossing a road one day, when a frog called out to him and
said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess." He bent over,
picked up the frog and put it in his pocket. The frog spoke up again and
said, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful princess, I will
stay with you for one week." The engineer took the frog out of his pocket,
smiled at it and returned it to the pocket. The frog then cried out, "If you
kiss me and turn me back into a princess, I'll stay with you for one week
and do ANYTHING you want." Again, the engineer took the frog out, smiled at
it and put it back into his pocket. Finally, the frog asked, "What is the
matter? I've told you I'm a beautiful princess, and that I'll stay with you
for one week and do anything you want. Why won't you kiss me?" The engineer
said, "Look, I'm an engineer. I don't have time for a girlfriend, but a
    talking frog, now that's cool.

  16. I must have hundred percent in my exam!!!

I know this is a weird twist to my tale ,but I can't help it its a part of adolescence. This is where the i realise that i have to work harder to get closer to the top ranks. This is quite painful at start, but you will like it when you reach closer to your goal. Not only do your parents feel proud, but others too. But overall you get the respect you deserve.

Life as an university student make us to face the difficulties like presentation, tutorial, assignment, report and so on. But try to make it simple, and enjoy our life as a student.

Try to manage you time. 'time is gold'. For me time is life. No more time if you are dead. We can't turn back and wait until time is in the end.

As a teenager we have to control our life to start making a good decision now.

  17. -FRENCH FRIES-

There's no doubt that french fries are one of America's favorite foods. French-fried potatoes are the featured side dish at nearly all fast-food chains, and at many sit-down restaurants as well. And the selection of types of frozen french fries at your typical supermarket is mind boggling. French fries are thought to have originated in 19th century Belgium, spreading later into France and later still into the greater part of the Western world. Of course, french fries are by nature pretty high in calories and fat. We are talking about deep-fried potato strips, after all. But in the wonderful world of fast-food fries, there's a big difference in how much calories, fat, and "bad fats" (saturated and trans) you'll find in a serving of french fries, based on where you buy them.

In Malaysia, McDonald's is the healthiest fries because it lowest in calories, fat grams and “bad fats”.

    A Healthier French Fries Recipe

If you really want healthier French fries, your best bet is to make them yourself. Here is a lower-fat, lower-calorie french fries recipe that could give fast-food fries a run for the money.

    Parsley-Parmesan Oven French Fries

    Ingredients:

4 medium (or 3 large) unpeeled russet potatoes, cut into 1/4-inch thick strips

4 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil (canola oil can be substituted)

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1/3 cup shredded Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley

    Preparation:

1.Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Coat a nonstick jellyroll pan with canola oil cooking spray.

2.In large zip-top plastic bag, combine potatoes with olive oil and salt; seal bag and toss to coat potatoes well.

3.Arrange potatoes in single layer on prepared baking sheet. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown, turning after 25 minutes.

4.Meanwhile, in small bowl, combine Parmesan cheese and parsley. When fries are light brown, sprinkle the Parmesan cheese mixture over the top and bake about 5 minutes more. Remove pan from oven; let cool for 2 minutes before serving.

    Comment:

In this era, people like to eat fast food which contain more salt and bad fat which not good for us. And the most popular food is french fries. I'm also like to eat french fries. But after I read this article, I noticed that, not all french fries contain same amount of salt and fats and I also know that the best french fries in Malaysia is from McDonald. So, for you who like to eat french fries, you can try given recipe or if you are lazy, just buy it at McDonald.

  18. As the economy in Malaysia deteriorates, many people are fired or lose their jobs nowadays. The amount of the jobless workers is sharply increasing recently. The government feels worry and concerns this serious phenomenon. Therefore, many wise steps are taken at this moment. Today, I read an article about these steps.

    Counselling for jobless workers

The MCA will launch a counselling programme for retrenched workers. Apart from counselling, the programme would also assist retrenched workers find new jobs.

“It will be for all races,” party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said in his speech at the swearing-in ceremony for new Tanjung Piai MCA division committee members in Pekan Nenas, near here, yesterday.

On another matter, Ong reminded MCA members to work hard. “Every member must work harder and get better every 100 days, which means three times a year. Time must not be wasted,” he said.

Ong said he agreed with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s call for a One Malaysia concept.

Among those attending the event were Tanjung Piai MCA chief Wee Jeck Seng, Johor MCA Wanita chief Tan Ah Eng and state MCA assemblymen.

I hope many people will attend this programme. Some of them are jobless because of their high demands. They always want a well-paid job but they do not have high quality. Some of them are unlucky when their boss fired them accidentally.
Through this programme, they will learn many important things about finding jobs.

People should find a job according to their interest and ability. They should also often read some materials to improve and update themselves in knowledge. Besides, they should attend some courses to upgrade their weakness so that the boss will appreciate their ability. They will get a higher post instead of are fired by employers.

Moreover, there are a lot of companies will attend this programme to search for some employees. People should take this good chance to try to get a job. Jobless workers are a burden for their families. Therefore, they should think wisely to avoid from making problems to their families. All the best!!!

  19. Water vs cup

A group of working adults got together to visit their University lecturer.

The lecturer was happy to see them. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. The Lecturer just smiled and went to the kitchen to get an assortment of cups - some porcelain, some in plastic, some in glass, some plain looking and some looked rather expensive and exquisite.

The Lecturer offered his former students the cups to get drinks for themselves.

When all the students had a cup in hand with water, the lecturer spoke: "If you noticed, all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal that you only want the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. What all you wanted was water, not the cup, but we unconsciously went for the better cups." "Just like in life, if Happiness is Water, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold/maintain Happiness in Life."

"If we only concentrate on the cups, we won't have time to enjoy/taste the water in it."

this time i would like to share with you about what teenagers need.
Teenagers need to hear and see from parents the things that are closest to their hearts - messages of love, limits, grace, tolerance, respect and understanding. They need parents to provide an open environment that welcomes and includes them as active participants in meaningful communications. They need parents to listen to their problems. They want to be able to discuss, reason and express their feelings and view. They don’t need parental nagging!

  24. Dear friends

Women, please take note and men, please pass it on to your women friends and loved ones....

    IMPORTANT

    Women's Rights 6p.m. to 6a.m. ( please read)

I was talking with a lawyer friend of mine.

We were discussing the law and women`s rights.

She told me about this incident

    - a young girl was raped by a man posing as a plain clothes officer; he asked her to come to the police station when she and her male friend didn't have a driver`s license to show.

He sent the boy off to get his license and asked the girl to accompany him to the police station.

Took her instead to an isolated area where the horrendous crime was committed.

Infact, the law clearly states that between 6 pm and 6am, a woman has the right to REFUSE to go to the Police Station, even if an arrest warrant has been issued against her..

It is a procedural issue that a woman can be arrested between 6pm and 6 am, ONLY if she is arrested by a woman officer and taken to an ALL WOMEN police station.

And if she is arrested by a male officer, it has to be proven that a woman officer was on duty at the time of arrest.

It is good for us to know our rights.

To what extent it comes of use remains to be seen in any situation.

But as they say, knowledge is power.

Just thought I`d share this with you.

I did not know this and am sure lot of us will not know this - please be informed.....

and pass on this info to your family and friends.

This is a reminder, more like an acknowledgement to the public about the not-very-well-known rights of women. It is true that one needs to know about what one could do in order for one to make the best choice when it comes to situations like these.

I think the U desicion for doing it for whatever reason is bad, it's for upgrading? or something.. like, it's almost sem break anyway, it'll be the perfect time for maintainance. Out of electricity in daytime, in a big institution isnt a good idea.

I wanted to share about what I stumbled upon few days ago.

I was surfing a forum, where it linked me to another website. It showed pictures of an 8 years old kid. Soo what's with this kid?

He was caught stealing bread, and his punishment was getting his hand crushed by a lorry. Yes. Very inhuman.

It was in an Arab country, and by his punishment I can sense as if they did was according to hudud. well. to cut it short, it was a bull.

why? because it is damn hard to implement hudud in the correct way. there were just 2 times hudud were implemented as I recall, at that was long, long ago. I dont know the detail, but it is really, really hard to punish someone with the lwas as it have its rules. like in the case of this kid, stealing.

some of the rules are: one must not steal because of starvation, one must not steal because of his free will, the action was not forced on him, he was in a good in state of mind (meaning he know what he did is wrong but im not sure on this), the stolen item must be clearly belong to some one else's, yadda yadda. so you see. this is why I said the guy that decide on the punishment have no sense of humanity.

And I wonder what they did for the kid after that. Send him to a hospital? doubt it. someone said it was a propaganda or something but still, its damn cruel. that kid lost an arm! he cant use his arm anymore. just an 8 years old. *sigh*. just imagine the gain he had to went through. Um that's all I think haha.

  29. Today morning I read through a new about E-payment solution for SMEs. In this modern century, the internet plays an important role in our life. Having the internet, much information can be gotten and various payments and activities can be operated in the foreign countries. Therefore, our government has started to follow their footstep. Recently, government has announced that the payment of business for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can be deployed through an effective e-payment solution in order to improve efficiency and to reduce cost. Taking this into consideration, a company has unveiled its latest e-payment product called MaxPaygate Link for Microsoft Excel (MXL). With MXL, companies can easily make payments for their staff salaries, statutory payments and supplier payments to the bank via the Internet.
As a result, they do not need to go to somewhere to make their payments. Sometimes, they have to wait when there are many people or go to further place from their working place. By using the program, it will save time and money, so they can use these things to do others big projects in their company. Besides, The MXL, which was developed based on the ISO Office Open XML standard, has the ability to store and manage business data in documents, thus resulting in lower cost of automating business processes. Based on the market surveys and statistics, it has high popularity and many people willing use this program than going somewhere to make their payments. This e-payment solution is based on the Windows-platform as there would be no re-learning needed.

Meanwhile, some banks are joining the fold as T-Melmax’s first banking partner for this e-payment service. The banks believe the solution serves as a user-friendly tool for customers to connect to the bank. MXL is a win-win situation for the banks and our customers. It assists them in delivering a seamless low-cost solution, according to the needs of our customers. In conclusion, it is useful program and brings many benefits to the companies in our country. I hope this program can be used by all companies as soon as possible. I am quite sure that this program will bring the business section to another high technology level. This will improve the economy of our country and drive some development to Malaysia.

Would you take the same path?

    http://rage.com.my/writeups/story.asp?file=/2009/2/2/outnabout/20090202142355&sec=outnabout

Social work is never an easy task for anyone. Which is why I really admire what Benjamin is doing. Only a handful of people would take the path he has taken , putting the needs of others before their own. Various task which most would consider repulsive and dangerous , becomes their job. In addition to that , they are doing it without getting anything in return. To me , that is truly honourable.

Now , would I ever consider changing places with him? Sadly , my answer would probably be “no”. Don’t get me wrong , it is not that I have anything against helping others or the needy , it just that I cannot imagine myself in Benjamin’s shoes. I think I lack the dedication and commitment needed for such a task. I am more of the type of help as and when I can , not one who can do it full type like Benjamin. However , I would probably try to change my mentality to be more like Benjamin because our world sure could use a few more Benjamins.

    Valentine's day

    http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/2/13/nation/3248183&sec=nation

Valentine’s day is here yet again. A day where most people will find ways to express their love for one another , let it be their lover , spouse , family or even friend. Being in the world that we are in today , I believe that this day is rather meaningful. You may be wondering why this is so. Well , I believe that with the busy lifestyle we have today , we often take our loved ones for granted. We never spend enough time with them or get them a gift just to show them we care. So if we can at least find a day to do so , it beats not doing so at all.

However , as meaningful as the day is , I think that money-minded business people are destroying the day by commercialising it. The very day where people take the time to show love for their loved ones , businessmen raise the prices of everything to take advantage of the day. A simple meal that would normally cost RM20 easily spikes up to over RM60. Roses which normally cost a RM1 would easily become RM12 on Valentine’s day. Personally , I am glad that the economy downfall is hitting these people hard. Before I end , let me just say that we should not let these people deter us from doing something nice for our love ones. Always remember that any day can be Valentine’s day because what matters is not the date but how we appreciate our loved ones.

    Foreign worker reduction

    http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/3/15/nation/3478334&sec=nation

Is this move by the government a good one or a bad one? I think that this matter can be viewed from a few view points. Firstly , it is good as it gives locals a better chance of getting employed as they no longer have to compete with foreigners who have a lower expectation of salary. However , we have to admit that at times are citizens are a little too choosy for their own good. Most of the jobs which foreigners take up are those that our citizens have written off such as cleaners , labourers and pump attendants.

So this leads to the negative side of this action. If the demand for local staff increases , but the locals refuse to take them , wouldn’t this lead to a shortage of man power and thus causing a down fall to many industries? This might then lead to a rise in illegal workers and cause government agencies to be unable to keep track of the number of foreign workers in our country. We shall see in time if this step leads to a positive outcome or a negative one.

  33. One must desire something to be alive.
Margaret Deland, O Magazine, September 2002
    http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/33462.html

In our lives, we have a lot of things to do. And there is something that we desire to be alive. For example, we would like to be famous over the world so that we wouldn’t waste our lives so easily. And that desire thing makes us continue to move on although it is tough to reach. If we didn’t have something desire, we will feel like nothing can we do and we will think some nonsense matter. This maybe will lead someone to end his or her life. And this maybe also will make that person become playful all the time.
So, in my opinion, we should desire something to be alive in our lives. No matter how tough it is, we will reach our goal to finish it.

  34. Applied mechanics is a branch of the physical sciences and the practical application of mechanics. Applied mechanics examines the response of bodies (solids and fluids) or systems of bodies to external forces. Some examples of mechanical systems include the flow of a liquid under pressure, the fracture of a solid from an applied force, or the vibration of an ear in response to sound. A practitioner of the discipline is known as a mechanician.

Applied mechanics, as its name suggests, bridges the gap between physical theory and its application to technology. As such, applied mechanics is used in many fields of engineering, especially mechanical engineering. In this context, it is commonly referred to as engineering mechanics. Much of modern engineering mechanics is based on Isaac Newton's laws of motion while the modern practice of their application can be traced back to Stephen Timoshenko, who is said to be the father of modern engineering mechanics.

Within the theoretical sciences, applied mechanics is useful in formulating new ideas and theories, discovering and interpreting phenomena, and developing experimental and computational tools. In the application of the natural sciences, mechanics was said by the American Nobel Prize-winning chemist Gilbert N. Lewis and the American physical chemist Merle Randall to be complemented by thermodynamics, the study of heat and more generally energy, and electromechanics, the study of electricity and magnetism.

You know why God created gap between fingers? So that at someday the one who is made for you, comes and fill those gaps by holding your hands forever.LOVE is a thing that every people need.Love can be explicit and implicit.Just the matter how you show out to the one you love the most. But sometime love can be so cruel and hurt, but what love without pain. However, after the pain you will feel the happines you ever wanted.Sometime fight is the way to improve our love as it is some kind of concern. Moreover, when your love emerge,it is sometime you can even reject as it is some kind of destiny that it is meant to be.As when your love close to you don't ever let go the opportunity as once the chance disappear your destiny will be completely changed and it will be a long time to wait another one.So treasure every opportunity when it appear.Don't miss it.

  37. hello this week I like share with you a thing or two about school bullying. In schools, bullying usually occurs in all areas of school. It can occur in nearly any part in or around the school building, though it more often occurs in PE, recess, hallways, bathrooms, on school buses and waiting for buses, classes that require group work and/or after school activities. Bullying in school sometimes consists of a group of students taking advantage of, or isolating one student in particular and gaining the loyalty of bystanders who want to avoid becoming the next victim. These bullies will taunt and tease their target before physically bullying the target. Targets of bullying in school are often pupils who are considered strange or different by their peers to begin with, making the situation harder for them to deal with. Some children bully because they have been isolated, and they have a deep need for belonging, but they do not possess the social skills to effectively keep friends . "When you're miserable, you need something more miserable than yourself." This may explain the negative actions towards others that bullies exhibit. However, there is some research suggesting that a significant proportion of "normal" school children may not evaluate school-based violence (student-on-student victimization) as negatively or as being unacceptable as much as adults generally do, and may even derive enjoyment from it, and they may thus not see a reason to prevent it if it brings them joy on some level.

Bullying can also be perpetrated by teachers and the school system itself: there is an inherent power differential in the system that can easily predispose to subtle or covert abuse, humiliation, or exclusion - even while maintaining overt commitments to anti-bullying policies.

School shootings are a bullying-related phenomenon that receive an enormous amount of media attention. An investigation undertaken by the United States Secret Service found that in over 2/3 of cases, attackers in school shooting incidents "felt persecuted, bullied, threatened, attacked, or injured by others prior to the incident", and discredits the idea that school shooters are "loners" who "just snap". Though observing that, "clearly, not every child who is bullied in school presents a risk for targeted violence in school", the investigation report states that, "a number of attackers had experienced bullying and harassment that was longstanding and severe. In those cases, the experience of bullying appeared to play a major role in motivating the attack at school". The report also observes "in a number of cases, attackers described experienced of being bullied in terms that approached torment". The report concluded that, "(t)hat bullying played a major role in a number of these school shootings should strongly support ongoing efforts to combat bullying in American schools".

Anti-bullying programs are designed to teach students cooperation, as well as training peer moderators in intervention and dispute resolution techniques, as a form of peer support.[citation needed]

American victims and their families have legal recourse, such as suing a school or teacher for failure to adequately supervise, racial or gender discrimination, or other civil rights violations. Special education students who are victimized may sue a school or school board under the ADA or Section 504. In addition, the victims of some school shootings have sued both the shooters' families and the schools.

  38. Wash your hands
"Wash your hands!" How many times have you heard that from your parents? You might think they're just nagging you, but actually the most important thing you can do to keep from getting sick is to wash your hands.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), if you don't wash your hands frequently, you can pick up germs from other sources and then infect yourself. You're at risk every time you touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. In fact, one of the most common ways people catch colds is by rubbing their nose or their eyes after the cold virus has gotten on their hands.
If people don't wash their hands frequently (especially when they're sick), they can spread germs directly to other people or onto surfaces that others touch. And before you know it, everyone around you is coming down with something!
The First Line of Defense Against Germs
Think about all of the things that you touched today - from the telephone to the toilet. Maybe you blew your
nose and played with your dog. Whatever you did, you came into contact with germs. So it's easy for germs on your hand to end up in your mouth (maybe when you scarfed that handful of popcorn with your teammates right after soccer practice).
By frequently washing your hands the right way, you'll wash away germs - such as bacteria and viruses – that you have picked up from other people, through contaminated water and food, from tainted surfaces, or from animals and animal waste.
How to Wash Your Hands Correctly
There's a right way to wash your hands. A splash of water and a drop or two of soap won't do the trick. Follow these simple steps to keep your hands clean:
    • Use warm water (not cold or hot).
    • Use whatever soap you like. Antibacterial soaps are popular but regular soap works fine. If you suspect that your hands have come into contact with someone with an infection, think about using an alcohol hand sanitizer.
    • Rub your hands together vigorously and scrub all surfaces: Lather up on both sides of your hands, your wrists, between your fingers, and around your nails. Wash for 15 seconds - about how long it takes to sing "Happy Birthday."
    • Rinse well under warm running water and pat dry with a clean towel.
    • In public restrooms, consider using a paper towel to flush the toilet and open the door because toilet and door handles harbor germs. Throw the towel away after you leave.
To prevent chapping or dry skin, use a mild soap with warm water, pat rather than rub hands dry, and apply a moisturizing lotion liberally afterwards.
When there is no soap or water available, waterless hand soaps or scrubs are a good alternative. They're usually available as a liquid, wipes, or towelettes, and often come in small travel sizes that are perfect for keeping in your book bag, car, locker, purse, or sports bag.

    Money can't buy love?

    http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/4/4/focus/3619480&sec=focus

It is often a saying that money cannot buy love. However , perhaps all these are beginning to change in our ever changing society. Due to the difference in educational standards between male and female in Singapore , men are finding it hard to find love. I suppose this is one the sacrifices they have to make in defending their country. Just to clear the air , it isn’t that men in Singapore are more stupid than the women , they are behind because they have to undergo National Service for 2 years. This puts them two years behind education wise thus making women the bread winner in Singapore. I suppose since socioeconomic status is one of the women’s criteria in a man , Singaporean men are having tough luck getting women and thus are turning to foreign women.

Moving on to the human trafficking issue , I suppose there are points from both sides of the argument. It is true that from the outside , it looks like a form of modern slavery and a legal way of human trafficking. However , let me just ask a few questions. Are we sure that these brides are not happy after marrying Singaporean man? Will they be happier if they were living a miserable life in their country , working day and night to make ends meet? Would they have found real love if they stayed and suffered in their country? I guess there could be some saying yes and some saying otherwise. The point I am really trying to make here really is that this could be a chance for this women to get out of the poverty cycle and changing the life of their family members once and for all. In addition to that , they might actually find real love after being married. True enough that is not the normal process we go thru , but that doesn’t mean that it won’t work right? To me , unless these women were forced into a marriage , the process although not normal seems to be a win-win situation. So now , still think money cannot buy love?

  42. GREENHOUSE GASES
The increase in greenhouse gases caused by human activity is often cited as one of the major causes of global warming. These greenhouse gases reabsorb heat reflected from the Earth's surface, thus trapping the heat in our atmosphere. This natural process is essential for life on Earth because it plays an important role in regulating the Earth's temperature. However, over the last several hundred years, humans have been artificially increasing the concentration of these gases, mainly carbon dioxide and methane in the Earth's atmosphere. These gases build up and prevent additional thermal radiation from leaving the Earth, thereby trapping excess heat.

In my opinion, we need to take care about our earth.Everyday we can hear that there are many disaster. This is because our earth are ‘sick’.If we are not protect it from now, our life also are not safe anymore. So, as a human that living in it,come together to protect our earth.

  43. BENEFITS OF PAPAYA
    1) Papaya contains the digestive enzyme papin and therefore valuable for aiding digestion.
    2) The ripe fruit is easily digestible and prevents constipation.
    3) The juice of the papaya aids in relieving of the colon and has a tendency to break down pus and mucus reached by the juice.
    4) Papayas are also a good source of fiber, which has been shown to lower high cholesterol.
    5) May help prevent cancer in organs and glands with epithelial tissue
    6) Papayas may be very helpful for the prevention of atherosclerosis and diabetic heart disease.
    7) Case studies indicate that this food taken alone for two or three days has a highly beneficial tonic effect upon the stomach and intestines.
    8) The unique protein-digesting enzymes; papain and chymopapain have been shown to help lower inflammation and to improve healing from burns in addition to helping in digestion of proteins.
My opinion about papaya is recommended to be one such pick from the group of Yellow and orange fruits, which promises abundant health benefits. It is a melon like fruit with yellow- orange flesh with dozens of small black seeds enclosed in skin that ranges in color from green to orange. Papaya has high nutritional benefits. The health benefits of fruits and vegetables can not be equated to that promised by nutritional pills and supplements. Nutrition experts advocate generous intake of fruits for optimum health as these food items are loaded with all the benefits.

  44. What happens when you are not getting enough oxygen?

I want to share the important of oxygen in our life. A lack of oxygen results in sickness, poor vitality, poor stamina, fatigue and a generally weak disposition. If you have poor eating habits, drink in excess, inhale pollution, toxins or drugs, or if you don’t exercise, your cells are deprived of vital oxygen and your immune system may be weakened. Low oxygen levels are undesirable because they affect the body's cell metabolism and may even cause it to manufacture improper chemicals, giving rise to various health problems. Cellular homeostasis is dependent on adequate supply of oxygen in the blood. Oxygen is absorbed by hemoglobin in the blood and transferred to every cell in the body. Interestingly, only recently have the medical and sport professions begun to take a new and serious look at the value of increasing oxygen levels.

  45. SLEEP
Yesterday, i have read magazine 'Reader's Digest' dated on July 2008 about 'Sleep to be Sexy, Smart and Slim'
To some people, the need for sleep is viewed as a sign of weakness. It's the new macho-and women, especially, are buying into it. But while you're asleep, every system in your body is being fine-tuned, reset, cleaned up and restored to its optimal operating mode by an army of molecular troubleshooters. New things you have learned are being processed, memories are being organised and stored and the immune system is building a new contingent of natural killercells to fight off battalions of infectious agents.
growth hormones is being produced to repair damaged tissue (in adult) or built new tissue (in children) and to block the corrosie effects of stress.
When you sleep well, you're in peak operating condition. When you don't, you feel groggy and none of your systems are firing on all cylinders. You don't thing straight, make good decision, remember where you parked your car or feel like making love.

  46. WORDS WOMEN USE

    FINE
This is the word women use to end an argument when they feel they are right and you need to shut up. Never use "fine" to describe how a woman looks - this will cause you to have one of those arguments.

    FIVE MINUTES
This is half an hour. It is equivalent to the five minutes that your football game is going to last before you take out the trash, so it's an even trade.

    NOTHING
This means "something," and you should be on your toes. "Nothing" is usually used to describe the feeling a woman has of wanting to turn you inside out, upside down, and backwards. "Nothing" usually signifies an argument that will last "Five Minutes" and end with "Fine"

    GO AHEAD (With Raised Eyebrows)
This is a dare. One that will result in a woman getting upset over "Nothing" and will end with the word "Fine"

    GO AHEAD (Normal Eyebrows)
This means "I give up" or "do what you want because I don't care" You will get a "Raised Eyebrow Go Ahead" in just a few minutes, followed by "Nothing" and "Fine" and she will talk to you in about "Five Minutes" when she cools off.

    LOUD SIGH
This is not actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A "Loud Sigh" means she thinks you are an idiot at that moment, and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you over "Nothing"

    SOFT SIGH
Again, not a word, but a non-verbal statement. "Soft Sighs" mean that she is content. Your best bet is to not move or breathe, and she will stay content.

    THAT'S OKAY
This is one of the most dangerous statements that a woman can make to a man. "That's Okay" means that she wants to think long and hard before paying you back for whatever it is that you have done. "That's Okay" is often used with the word "Fine" and in conjunction with a "Raised Eyebrow."

    GO AHEAD.
At some point in the near future, you are going to be in some mighty big trouble.

    PLEASE DO
This is not a statement, it is an offer. A woman is giving you the chance to come up with whatever excuse or reason you have for doing whatever it is that you have done. You have a fair chance with the truth, so be careful and you shouldn't get a "That's Okay"

    THANKS
A woman is thanking you. Do not faint. Just say you're welcome.

    THANKS A LOT
This is much different from "Thanks." A woman will say, "Thanks A Lot" when she is really ticked off at you. It signifies that you have offended her in some callous way, and will be followed by the "Loud Sigh." Be careful not to ask what is wrong after the "Loud Sigh," as she will only tell you "Nothing"

Send this to the men you know to warn them about future arguments they can avoid if they remember the terminology.

  47. What is appendicitis?
Appendicitis is a painful swelling and infection of the appendix. The appendix is a fingerlike pouch attached to the large intestine and located in the lower right area of the abdomen.

What are the symptoms of appendicitis?
Most people with appendicitis have classic symptoms that a doctor can easily identify. The main symptom of appendicitis is abdominal pain.
    The abdominal pain usually
    • occurs suddenly, often causing a person to wake up at night
    • occurs before other symptoms
    • begins near the belly button and then moves lower and to the right
    • is new and unlike any pain felt before
    • gets worse in a matter of hours
    • gets worse when moving around, taking deep breaths, coughing, or sneezing
Other symptoms of appendicitis may include
    • loss of appetite
    • nausea
    • vomiting
    • constipation or diarrhea
    • inability to pass gas
    • a low-grade fever that follows other symptoms
    • abdominal swelling
    • the feeling that passing stool will relieve discomfort
Symptoms vary and can mimic other sources of abdominal pain, including
    • intestinal obstruction
    • inflammatory bowel disease
    • pelvic inflammatory disease and other gynecological disorders
    • intestinal adhesions
    • constipation

  48. Low Blood Pressure

Hypotension is the medical term for low blood pressure, generally considered to be a systolic blood pressure of 90 mm Hg or less in an adult. Blood pressures vary, depending on such factors as age, race, sex, and environment. On rare occasions, individuals may have medical problems that cause low blood pressure. Among such conditions are some types of heart disease, hormonal deficiencies, and malnutrition. In these cases, the hypotension will be corrected by the treatment of the medical problem.
Whether low blood pressure produces a syndrome is controversial. Several studies have suggested that low blood pressure may be associated with nonspecific symptoms such as tiredness and feeling faint. Because these symptoms are often attributed to psychological problems, some authorities believe that psychological dysfunction may be associated with hypotension.

Causes and Risk Factors of Low Blood Pressure
The likelihood of syncope (fainting) is increased after meals, in hot environments such as after showers, and after consuming alcohol.
Sometimes postural hypotension results from taking a medication for high blood pressure; in these cases, the physician may reduce the dosage or change the medication. Fluids, including blood, lost from the body may also cause postural hypotension, as may many diseases. Hypotension can occur in combination with Addison's disease and alcoholism.

    Treatment of Low Blood Pressure
Treatment varies depending on the cause of the low blood pressure. If you have no symptoms, your physician may decide no treatment is necessary. If you have symptoms, your physician may reassess the doses of your medications, especially your blood pressure medications.
In orthostatic (postural) hypotension, possible interventions may include rehydration, changing the timing of meals, elevation of the head of your bed, and pressure-graded stockings.

  49. Chocolate

Chocolate has become one of the most popular flavors in the world. It is a common ingredient in many snacks and desserts, including cookies, cake, ice cream, pudding, pie and candy. Gifts of chocolate molded into different shapes have become traditional on certain holidays: chocolate bunnies and eggs are popular at Easter, chocolate coins on Hanukkah, Santa Claus and other holiday symbols at Christmas, and hearts on Valentine's Day. Chocolate is also used in cold and hot beverages, including chocolate milk and hot chocolate.

    Health
While chocolate is regularly eaten for pleasure, there are potential beneficial health effects of eating chocolate. Cocoa or dark chocolate benefits the circulatory system. Other beneficial effects suggested include anticancer, brain stimulator, cough preventor and antidiarrhoeal effects. An aphrodisiac effect is yet unproven.
On the other hand, the unconstrained consumption large quantities of any energy-rich food such as chocolate is thought to increase the risk of obesity without a corressponding increase in activity. Raw chocolate is high in cocoa butter, a fat which is removed during chocolate refining, then added back in in varying proportions during the manufacturing process. Manufacturers may add other fats, sugars, and milk as well, all of which increase the caloric content of chocolate.
There is concern of mild lead poisoning for some types of chocolate. Chocolate is toxic to many animals because of insufficient capacity to metabolize theobromine.
A study reported by the BBC indicated that melting chocolate in one's mouth produced an increase in brain activity and heart rate that was more intense than that associated with passionate kissing, and also lasted four times as long after the activity had ended.

  50. Greenhouse effect on our earth

Actually, the "greenhouse effect" is the warming that happens when certain gases in Earth's atmosphere trap heat. These gases let in light but keep heat from escaping, like the glass walls of a greenhouse.

The sunlight shines onto the Earth's surface, where it is absorbed and then radiates back into the atmosphere as heat. In the atmosphere, “greenhouse” gases trap some of this heat, and the rest escapes into space. The more greenhouse gases are in the atmosphere, the more heat gets trapped.

Scientists have known about the greenhouse effect since 1824, when Joseph Fourier calculated that the Earth would be much colder if it had no atmosphere. This greenhouse effect is what keeps the Earth's climate livable. Without it, the Earth's surface would be an average of about 60 degrees Fahrenheit cooler. In 1895, the Swedish chemist Svante Arrhenius discovered that humans could enhance the greenhouse effect by making carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. He kicked off 100 years of climate research that has given us a sophisticated understanding of global warming.

Levels of greenhouse gases (GHGs) have gone up and down over the Earth's history, but they have been fairly constant for the past few thousand years. Global average temperatures have stayed fairly constant over that time as well, until recently. Through the burning of fossil fuels and other GHG emissions, humans are enhancing the greenhouse effect and warming Earth.

Scientists often use the term "climate change" instead of global warming. This is because as the Earth's average temperature climbs, winds and ocean currents move heat around the globe in ways that can cool some areas, warm others, and change the amount of rain and snow falling. As a result, the climate changes differently in different areas.

So, we should combine our energy to prevent the greenhouse happen. Thanks!

  51. January 16, 1993

In 1989, a Union Bridge, Md., high school permitted a female student, Tawana Hammond, 17, to try out for its football team under the pressure of a federal statute that bars school discrimination on the basis of gender.

On her first scrimmage, Tawana, a running back, was tackled and suffered massive internal injuries.

In October 1992, she filed a $1.5 million lawsuit against the county board of education for its alleged failure to tell her how dangerous football is.

    COMMENT:
It is near impossible to create an outline of the dangers or injuries that can be attained during playing a certain sport. Therefore, schools should not be held solely responsible to educate the children on the matter, as parents and the child himself/ herself should take the initiative to find more about the sport that they are interested in.

Furthermore, I believe schools should equipt the children with methodology to attain information but not be spoon feeding them. I would confidently say that the new generation are more independent and resourceful.

  52. • What is a blood transfusion?
Blood transfusion is a medical treatment to replace blood or portions of the blood lost through injury, surgery, or disease. When is a blood transfusion needed?
blood transfusion is needed if you have had significant blood loss or if your body cannot make or is losing an important component of blood.Blood may be lost through:
    1.surgery or injury.
2.An illness that causes bleeding, such as a bleeding ulcer.
3.An illness in which the bone marrow doesn't make enough blood, such as aplastic anemia.
4.An illness that destroys blood cells, such as hemolytic anemia or thrombocytopenia.
Did you know with blood transfuring will not effect to our?from the article, blood transfusions given in the United States are very safe and generally free from disease. Blood collected for transfusion is carefully tested for disease-causing organisms. The transmission of a disease through a blood transfusion is very rare. The main risk of a blood transfusion is that the wrong blood type may be accidentally given. This happens about once in every 14,000 transfusions.1 Transfusion with the wrong blood type can result in a severe, sometimes life-threatening reaction.
A person who has had several blood transfusions is more likely to have problems from immune system reactions. This means problems occur because the person's body rejects and tries to attack parts of the new blood. But careful blood screening can lower the risk of these types of problems.
Even receiving the correct blood type can result in a mild transfusion reaction, causing fever, hives, shortness of breath, pain, rapid heart rate, chills, and low blood pressure. While a mild transfusion reaction is frightening, it is rarely life-threatening when treated quickly.

So i will not say it if blood transfuring is good or else...But the important is,blood tranfuring is a good value..With this we can help another people....

  53. • Berries are not only sources of concentrated flavour, but little packets of vitamins, minerals, and fibre. For example, a cup of sliced strawberries contains a whole day's requirement for vitamin C. A cup of blackberries contain a day's worth of manganese, while the same amount of raspberries supplies a third of our daily niacin needs. Blueberries and strawberries are even surprisingly good sources of vitamin E. And they all contain between 4 and 9 grams of fibre per cup.

Why are Berries So Good for Us?
The seeds of berries are mainly spread by birds and other animals; the bright colours of the berries help attract those seed-distributors. The skins of berries have to be thin enough so that they are easily eaten, but at the same time not vulnerable to pests and diseases. The chemicals which cause the colour and protect the plant also turn out to be good for us.

  54. • How to adopt a child

If you can’t have children of your own and wish to have a children, adoption might be an option to consider, but how do you go about it? In Malaysia you can first foster a child from the Social Welfare Department under the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development. After two years you may adopt the child if you wish. When they submit the application, they will be interviewed about why they want to adopt, whether they have problems conceiving. During the two years the welfare officer near the applicant’s home will check on the child every three months. The officer will then write a report which will be sent to the Social Welfare Department. Alternatively, if you find a child on your own then you can proceed to adopt the child by going to court or by registering with the National Registration Department. As legal adoption is under the jurisdiction of the NRD, the couple would have to apply through that department to register the adoption.

  55. Growing Good Corn

There was a Nebraska farmer who grew award-winning corn. Each year he entered his corn in the state fair where it won a blue ribbon...

One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew it. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors.

"How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year?" the reporter asked.

"Why sir," said the farmer, "didn't you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbors grow inferior corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbors grow good corn."

He is very much aware of the connectedness of life. His corn cannot improve unless his neighbor's corn also improves.

So it is in other dimensions. Those who choose to be at peace must help their neighbors to be at peace. Those who choose to live well must help others to live well, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches. And those who choose to be happy must help others to find happiness for the welfare of each is bound up with the welfare of all.

The lesson for each of us is this: if we are to grow good corn, we must help our neighbors grow good corn too.

  56. The Wise Sage...

There once was a wise sage who wandered the countryside. One day, as he passed near a village, he was approached by a woman who told him of a sick child nearby. She beseeched him to help this child.

So the sage came to the village, and a crowd gathered around him, for such a man was a rare sight. One woman brought the sick child to him, and he said a prayer over her.

"Do you really think your prayer will help her, when medicine has failed?" yelled a man from the crowd.

"Sadly, my friend, you know little of such things,” replied the sage.

The man became very angry with these words and his face grew hot and red. He was about to say something, or perhaps strike out, when the sage walked over to him and said:

"If one word has such power as to make you so angry and hot, may not another have the power to heal?"

And thus, the sage’s words and prayers started the healing of two people that day.

If we really think about it, all of us have seen miracles in our lives, but more often than not the miracles come through nature, rather than above it.

  57. Colour Blindness

Colour blindness is an inaccurate term for a lack of perceptual sensitivity to certain colors. Absolute colour blindness is almost unknown, but in very rare cases, total colour blindness occurs. Colour blindness can happen in one of two ways:

Typical: Complete inability to discriminate between any colour variations, which is usually associated with other severe vision impairments.

Atypical: The ability to only see very clear colours.

Affecting around 7% of men and around 0.04% women, the main form of colour blindness is the inability to distinguish red from green. This means that people affected do not see the colours red and green the same way as others. The cause of this is due to the red or green photoreceptors working incorrectly.

As the result we should care for our eyes in order not to get in colour bliness. Thanks!

  58. The Paradoxical Commanments

I would like to share something interesting here, check it out.

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
    Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
    Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.
    Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
    Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
    Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
    Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
    Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
    Help people anyway.

    If you find serenity and happiness, there may be jealousy;
    Be happy anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

    You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

  59. Friendship

Friendship' is a term used to denote co-operative and supportive behavior between two or more beings. In this sense, the term connotes a relationship which involves mutual knowledge, esteem, and affection and respect along with a degree of rendering service to friends in times of need or crisis. Friends will welcome each other's company and exhibit loyalty towards each other, often to the point of altruism. Their tastes will usually be similar and may converge, and they will share enjoyable activities. They will also engage in mutually helping behavior, such as exchange of advice and the sharing of hardship. A friend is someone who may often demonstrate reciprocating and reflective behaviors. Yet for many, friendship is nothing more than the trust that someone or something will not harm them. Value that is found in friendships is often the result of a friend demonstrating the following on a consistent basis:

    * the tendency to desire what is best for the other,
    * sympathy and empathy,
    * honesty, perhaps in situations where it may be difficult for others to speak the truth, especially in terms of pointing out the perceived faults of one's counterpart
    * mutual understanding.

  60. Adolf Hitler

Adolf Hitler was born at the Gasthof zum Pommer, an inn in Braunau am Inn, Austria-Hungary, on 20 April 1889,the fourth child of six.His father, Alois Hitler (1837–1903), was a customs official. His mother, Klara Pölzl (1860–1907), was Alois' third wife. She was also his half-niece, so a papal dispensation was obtained for the marriage. Of Alois and Klara's six children, only Adolf and his sister Paula, seven years his junior, reached adulthood. Hitler's father also had a son, Alois, Jr., and a daughter, Angela, by his second wife.

Hitler had a troubled childhood, as his father was violent to him and violent towards his mother. Hitler himself said that, as a boy, he was often beaten by his father. Years later, he told his secretary: "I then resolved never again to cry when my father whipped me. A few days later I had the opportunity of putting my will to the test. My mother, frightened, took refuge in front of the door. As for me, I counted silently the blows of the stick which lashed my rear end". Some historians believe a history of family violence committed by his father against his mother is indicated in a section of his book Mein Kampf in which Hitler describes in vivid detail an anonymous example of family violence committed by a husband against a wife. This along with beatings by his father against him could explain Hitler's deep emotional attachment to his mother while at the same time having deep resentment towards his father.

Hitler's family moved often, from Braunau am Inn to Passau, Lambach, Leonding, and Linz. The young Hitler was a good student in elementary school. But in the sixth grade, his first year of high school (Realschule) in Linz he failed and had to repeat the grade. His teachers said that he had "no desire to work". One of Hitler's fellow pupils in the Realschule was Ludwig Wittgenstein, one of the great philosophers of the 20th century.

Hitler later said that his educational slump was a rebellion against his father, who wanted the boy to follow him in a career as a customs official; he wanted to become a painter instead. This explanation is further supported by Hitler's later description of himself as a misunderstood artist. After Alois died on 3 January 1903, Hitler's schoolwork did not improve. At age 16, Hitler dropped out of high school without a diploma.

In Mein Kampf, Hitler attributed his conversion to German nationalism to a time during his early teenage years when he read a book of his father's about the Franco-Prussian War, which caused him to question why his father and other German Austrians failed to fight for the Germans during the war.

  61. Pneumonia

    Symptoms:-
Symptoms of pneumonia caused by bacteria in otherwise healthy people younger than 65 usually come on suddenly. They often start during or after an upper respiratory infection, such as influenza or a cold, and may include:
•Cough, often producing mucus (sputum) from the lungs. Mucus may be rusty or green or tinged with blood.
•Fever, which may be less common in older adults.
•Shaking, "teeth-chattering" chills (one time only or many times).
•Fast, often shallow, breathing and the feeling of being short of breath.
•Chest wall pain that is often made worse by coughing or breathing in.
    •Fast heartbeat.
•Feeling very tired (fatigue) or feeling very weak (malaise).
    •Nausea and vomiting.
    •Diarrhea.

Symptoms of pneumonia not caused by bacteria (nonbacterial) include fever, cough, shortness of breath, and little mucus when you cough. They may come on gradually and are often less obvious and less severe than those of bacterial pneumonia. Many people don't know that they have nonbacterial pneumonia because they do not feel sick.
When symptoms are mild, your doctor may call your condition "walking pneumonia."

  62. Stress Management

The final examination is coming soon!!!Most of people are busy studying in order to get good result in the exam. As they have to go through many books, some of them feel stressed and sometimes they unable to continue to concentrate on study. I admire that I am one of them. Therefore, today I go to search some articles about stress management. Finally, I have found one in this website http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/health/10-awesome-ways-to-reduce-stress-without-spending-a-dime-312155/. Most of us have thought about how dangerous stress can be to our health and very few of us make the conscious effort to manage stress so it doesn’t take over our lives.
Normal levels of stress won’t harm you, but high levels of stress can lead to some negative health conditions. Those are heart palpitations, anxiety attacks, chest pain, dizziness, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, spastic colon, low blood sugar, constant tiredness, chronic headaches, insomnia and Premenstrual tension. Besides, stress can also change your personality and affect how you interact and deal with others. When you look at problems like anger, irritability, aggressiveness, verbal abuse, mood swings and road rage, you can see how they can be brought on by too much stress in your life.

There are ten ways to reduce the stress in your efficient. Firstly, turn off the TV because it will only increase your stress level. Then,
go for a walk in an area with tons of trees. Take time to reconnect with Mother Nature and take time to escape from all the bad news. In addition, you can call up a friend to spend time with her or him over a cup of coffee or a walk can make a huge difference to the way you feel. When there are weekly free activities that are open to the public, you should go out there and discover something new! Furthermore, hang out at your favorite bookstore or try to de-clutter your home products. Sometimes you should treat yourself to a hot bubble bath by candlelight. This is such a relaxing activity. Moreover, bake your favorite cookies or your favorite cake. Brew a special cup of tea or coffee and sit down in your favorite chair. Then, grab a book or your favorite hobby magazine. Those activities can relieve your stress. Finally, update your photo album. We usually take photos of the happy times we want to remember. By thinking those happy moments, it will help you to reduce the stress. Now, I plan to try few of these methods to reduce my stress in order to prepare myself to face the final exam Hopefully, I can relieve the stress successfully before the exam.

  63. I am sitting at a pizza parlor next to a middle aged woman, a four year old, and a 17 or 18 year old. The little boy started asking the older boy, "What is that green thing on your tongue?" The older boy, obviously amused, stuck his tongue out showing some kind of piercing that included a ball above and below his tongue. The little boy reacted with disgust, commenting that it was yucky. Everyone laughed as the older by continued to roll around his tongue and thorughly display the device He then went back to his pizza job....

Another older boy, and the mother, then told the boy it wasn't nice to comment like that about the piercings.

Why isn't it nice? The older boy wasn't offended, but even more important, had gotten several piercings, probably just to attract attention.

Is it not nice to comment because someone might feel offended? If someone has no choice over their condition, then we should not make bad comments about this. The little boy could be taught this. But in this situation, the older boy had chosen these outlandish and useless, and possibly dangerous, body modifications, so it is not the same.

How about when people make voluntary decisions to do things that are disgusting to the rest of us? Why should the rest of us be made to feel guilty for our natural revulsion?

Sometimes out of the mouths of babes too young to worry about political correctness come the most natural and true reactions...

    COMMENT:
As I read the above article, two questions kept popping into my head. Firstly, why should a small child be told not to comment on an older child's piercings? This is because, the piercing is done voluntarily and not by force. Such fate was not bestoned upon them rather it was a choice of preference.

Apart from that, why should a small child's instinct on stupid decisions be suppressed? The same freedom of choice should be offered to the child.

There is a local saying that goes, one should be responsible upon ones action.

  64. 10 commandments of marriage.

    Commandment 1.
Marriages are made in heaven. But so again, are
    thunder and lightning.

    Commandment 2.
If you want your wife to listen and pay strict attention
to every word you say; talk in your sleep.

    Commandment 3.
Marriage is grand — and divorce is at least 100 grand!

    Commandment 4.
Married life is very frustrating. In the first year of marriage, the man speaks and the woman listens.
In the second year, the woman speaks and the man listens.
In the third year, they both speak and the neighbors listen.

    Commandment 5.
When a man opens the door of his car for his wife, you can be sure
    of one thing:
Either the car is new or the wife is.

    Commandment 6.
    Marriage is when a man and woman become as one;
The trouble starts when they try to decide which one.

    Commandment 7.
Before marriage, a man will lie awake all night thinking about
    something you say.
After marriage, he will fall asleep before you finish.

    Commandment 8.
Every man wants a wife who is beautiful, understanding, economical, and a good cook.
But the law allows only one wife.

    Commandment 9.
Marriage and love are purely matter of chemistry. That is why wife
    treats husband like toxic waste.

    Commandment 10.
A man is incomplete until he is married.
    After that, he is finished..

    COMMENT:

The article above, made me reevaluate my standing and expectation of marriage. Sharing the above article with married acquintance, almost all agree with a silent smile carved on across their faces.

Well, being a Asian and brought up in an indian family, I would confidently say that the level of commitment between Asian and Europeans towards the institution differs treamendously. Therefore, we should take the above with a pinch of salt.

    Brother makes shocking sex request

A 19-year-old girl slapped her brother when he made a shocking request for sex after fondling her on a motorcycle, reported Harian Metro.

A police source said the suspect had come to fetch the victim home from her workplace in Kuala Selangor last Friday.

Claiming to feel sleepy, the suspect then made the victim ride the motorcycle back to their house in Taman Permai, Jeram, while he rode pillion.

It was then that he took advantage of her.

When the stunned victim slapped and scolded him, the suspect threatened to hurt her if she told the family.

The victim then confided in her fiance before lodging a police report.

Police are now looking for the suspect, who is believed to have gone into hiding.

  66. Smoking As a Part of Culture
Smoking has a long tradition and history in all major countries. It is not just a personal habit. It is a part of our culture. No matter what laws are made and how many campaigns launched against it, smoking tobacco is today a very essential ingredient in the lives of many.

As a cultural trait, smoking is very well known in literature, movies, and music. The smoke-filled cafes and public houses are the first impressions noted down by travelers and writers in countries where smoking is popular. The movies too have added their touch of glamour and romance to this habit, whether it is the scenario as described above, or the gentleman smoker with his girlfriend and a cigar in one hand.

There are countries where the younger generation has taken heavily to smoking tobacco. It fills their life with some meaning, provides relaxation in difficult times, and brings two people together when they might have stayed away.

How and when smoking tobacco began is not the subject matter here, but the natural product seems to have been long known to native users. As its use spread to other countries, new ways of processing and preparing the product were invented, culminating in the modern, sleek version – the cigarette. At once handy and easily procurable from small kiosks the world over, it stands as a symbol of the modern man and the modern world.

The ill effects of smoking or chewing tobacco are well known. These are the rallying points of the laws and the campaigns that back them up. It is indeed our responsibility to take care of our health and to know the adverse effects. The very young too need to be kept away from easy enticements. The final decision is ultimately in our hands.

  67. Smart Card Technology
You swipe your card while entering office and your time of entry gets registered along with your name. When you go to a shopping mall or restaurant, how do you pay your bill? I am sure, most of you use your credit/debit card. In both the cases, you make use of nothing but the smart card technology. A smart card is like a ‘pocket-size powerhouse’, empowering the cardholder with a facility to store personal and financial information and perform several electronic transactions with ease and efficiency.

One of the most important features of a smart card is its ease of use. Being similar in appearance and functioning to bankcards, the users find them easy to use. They offer the users, a simplified interface. Moreover, smart cards are affordable for the common man. Although their costs increase with their storage capacities, they turn out being cost-effective for a large-scale use. The next significant advantage offered by smart cards is their security. The information that is stored on a smart card chip is not easy to duplicate. It is difficult for unauthorized users to manipulate the information stored by the smart card chips. Here are a few more significant advantages of the smart card technology.

Smart cards are really smart! They require only a card acceptor, often known as a card reader to read from them. One read of the card or a write to it can be referred to as a transaction. It can store data and also convert it into interactive information. Owing to their inbuilt security features, smart cards assure protection of information that is stored on them and offers secure transactions. Many of the smart cards of today feature a chip operating system and system development kits. The operating system is capable of error checking, thus equipping smart cards with error correction capabilities. Some chip operating systems offer a feature to change the baud rate, thereby increasing transaction speeds of the smart cards.

  68. Global Warming and Deforestation
Trees play a vital role in the equilibrium of the ecosystem. Deforestation is a process of cutting trees to make space for pastures or for industries and households of the ever-increasing human population. Excessive cutting of trees for urban use and other purposes is detrimental to the environmental balance. It is needless to say that deforestation has several adverse effects on the environment. I am sure you would like to read more about the causes and effects of deforestation.

One of the major disadvantages of deforestation is that it disrupts the water cycle. Trees are responsible for drawing up water from the soil and releasing moisture into the atmosphere. Deforestation causes a disturbance in the water cycle and makes the environment drier. Climate change is a severe outcome of excessive cutting down of trees. Forests lock up atmospheric carbon during the process of photosynthesis. Trees contain a major portion of carbon from the atmosphere.

Clearing of the forest cover has a contrary effect on the environment. It results in an increase in the amount of carbon and other greenhouse gases in the environment. Burning of forests results in the emission of a large amount of carbon dioxide into the air. Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases like the oxides of nitrogen and methane are known to trap atmospheric heat, thus increasing the average temperature of the Earth’s surface. This increase in the temperature near the Earth’s surface and oceans is termed as global warming.

The rise in the average temperature of our planet is bound to cause the sea level to increase. Global warming has already begun causing the melting of glaciers and of the ice at the poles, thus adding to the rise in the sea level. This phenomenon is a serious threat to the life on Earth and it is we, who need to take the right measures to prevent it from happening.

We should not forget that trees add to the biodiversity in nature. Animal life thrives on vegetation. By cutting down trees, we deprive animals of their sources of food and cause the destruction of animal life. It can lead to the extinction of a variety of animal species. Global warming that is largely caused by deforestation further endangers plant and animal life, thereby disturbing the balance in nature.

It is believed that the use of fossil fuels and the burning of oil and gas cause global warming. It is true that pollution caused by the burning of oil and gas and the release of pollutants causes global warming. But research has revealed that deforestation is one of its major causes. It is the main reason behind the rise in the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, leading to the greenhouse effect.

Extreme weather conditions, changing agricultural yields and increase in the disease vectors are some of the other effects of global warming. Deforestation, being the primary reason behind global warming, we need to show greater concern towards the felling of trees. We need to take quick measures on preventing deforestation so that we can hope for an environment conducive to live in.

  69. How are Waterfalls Formed

The explanation as to what makes a waterfall is controversial among the waterfall lovers of the world. The commonly accepted answer is that a watercourse (any stream, river or creek) that falls from a height of at least three meters (around 10 feet), having a slope of 30 degrees is a waterfall.

Waterfalls are formed due to natural processes. However, waterfalls can also be man-made water bodies such as garden waterfalls and waterfalls created by dams and hydro-electric power stations. These man-made waterfalls often have a minimum vertical height of five feet and water is present throughout the year. Let' take a look on how waterfalls are formed due to natural processes.

As per geology, waterfalls are formed due to the erosive activity of the watercourse, flowing over varied layers of rocks that have different rates of erosion. Let's discuss about two consequences of erosion; a watercourse traversing over a soft rock layer will have higher rate of erosion, in comparison to another area with a hard rock layer. Over a period of time, the erosion process further continues to erode the soft rocks, resulting in the steepening of the watercourse beyond the layer of hard rocks.

In such a condition, the soil erosion rate is also accelerated due to steepening effect and increased speed of the watercourse. Eventually, the steepness of the watercourse increases and a stage comes in which the slope becomes almost vertical and/or totally vertical, leading to the formation of waterfalls. The base where the waterfall lands, is called a plunge pool.

The height of the waterfall increases, as the watercourse continues to cut the soft rocks. It is also observed that the soft rock layer directly under the hard rocks is undercut. In some cases, the watercourse does not have contact with the wall of the cliff. The overhanging hard rock becomes unstable due to undercutting process, whereby it may collapse and retreat back.

  70. This Will Rot More than Your Teeth

The hospital's consulting dietician was giving a lecture to several community nurses from the Southampton area of Hampshire.

'The rubbish we put into our stomachs and consume should have killed most of us sitting here, years ago. Red meat is terrible. Fizzy drinks attack your stomach lining. Chinese food is loaded with msg. Vegetables can be disastrous because of fertilisers and pesticides and none of us realises the long-term damage being done by the rotten bacteria in our drinking water. However, there is one food that is incredibly dangerous and we all have, or will, eat it at some time in our lives.

Now, is anyone here able to tell me what food it is that causes the most grief and suffering for years after eating it?'

A 65-year-old nursing sister sitting in the front row stood up and said, 'Wedding cake.'

Try this test: Smile. Now try to think of something negative without losing the smile. It's hard. When we smile our body is sending the rest of us a message that "Life is Good!" Stay away from depression, stress and worry by smiling.

    Hi,

Please be more cautious as the warnings has been given.
I just received this message from a colleague. I don’t know the source of the message; I also don’t know the credibility of the content, but just beware.

Below is the content on the message:

“Hello there. I just wanted 2 let you know that please stay away from the beaches all around in the month of July. There is a prediction that there will be another tsunami hitting on July 22nd. It is also when there will be sun eclipse. Predicted that it is going 2 be really bad and countries like Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak), Singapore, Maldives, Australia, Mauritius, Si Lanka, India, Indonesia, Philippines are going 2 be badly hit. Please try and stay away from the beaches in July. Better 2 be safe than sorry. Please pass the word around. Please also pray for all beings.”

Thanks and have a nice day.

    Bless you~

This is a warning about an upcoming tsunami. Whether the information is reliable or not, natural disasters seem quite frequent these few years, from the Indian Ocean earthquake which triggered a tsunami in 2004 to the Sichuan earthquake just a year ago. I am guessing this is the act of nature, the population of human beings is overflowing, these may be the counteracting effects to restore the equilibrium of the demand and supply of food, shelter, space and other necessities to live. And please stay away from beaches during the stated time period, as mentioned, it is better to be safe than sorry.

  75. Motivation

If you want to make things happen the ability to motivate yourself and others is a crucial skill. At work, home, and everywhere in between, people use motivation to get results. Motivation requires a delicate balance of communication, structure, and incentives. These 21 tactics will help you maximize motivation in yourself and others.

    1. Consequences - Never use threats. They’ll turn people against you. But making people aware of the negative consequences of not getting results (for everyone involved) can have a big impact. This one is also big for self motivation. If you don’t get your act together, will you ever get what you want?

    2. Pleasure - This is the old carrot on a stick technique. Providing pleasurable rewards creates eager and productive people.

    3. Performance incentives - Appeal to people’s selfish nature. Give them the opportunity to earn more for themselves by earning more for you.

    4. Detailed instructions - If you want a specific result, give specific instructions. People work better when they know exactly what’s expected.

    5. Short and long term goals - Use both short and long term goals to guide the action process and create an overall philosophy.

    6. Kindness - Get people on your side and they’ll want to help you. Piss them off and they’ll do everything they can to screw you over.

    7. Deadlines - Many people are most productive right before a big deadline. They also have a hard time focusing until that deadline is looming overhead. Use this to your advantage by setting up a series of mini-deadlines building up to an end result.

    8. Team Spirit - Create an environment of camaraderie. People work more effectively when they feel like part of team — they don’t want to let others down.

    10. Recognize achievement - Make a point to recognize achievements one-on-one and also in group settings. People like to see that their work isn’t being ignored.

    11. Personal stake - Think about the personal stake of others. What do they need? By understanding this you’ll be able to keep people happy and productive.

    12. Concentrate on outcomes - No one likes to work with someone standing over their shoulder. Focus on outcomes — make it clear what you want and cut people loose to get it done on their own.

    13. Trust and Respect - Give people the trust and respect they deserve and they’ll respond to requests much more favorably.

    14. Create challenges - People are happy when they’re progressing towards a goal. Give them the opportunity to face new and difficult problems and they’ll be more enthusiastic.

    15. Let people be creative - Don’t expect everyone to do things your way. Allowing people to be creative creates a more optimistic environment and can lead to awesome new ideas.

    16. Constructive criticism - Often people don’t realize what they’re doing wrong. Let them know. Most people want to improve and will make an effort once they know how to do it.

    17. Demand improvement - Don’t let people stagnate. Each time someone advances raise the bar a little higher (especially for yourself).

    18. Make it fun - Work is most enjoyable when it doesn’t feel like work at all. Let people have fun and the positive environment will lead to better results.

    19. Create opportunities - Give people the opportunity to advance. Let them know that hard work will pay off.

    20. Communication - Keep the communication channels open. By being aware of potential problems you can fix them before a serious dispute arises.

    21. Make it stimulating - Mix it up. Don’t ask people to do the same boring tasks all the time. A stimulating environment creates enthusiasm and the opportunity for “big picture” thinking.

Master these key points and you’ll increase motivation with a bit of hard work.

  76. Hi everyone! This is something that would lift your spirits after the hassle and bussle we've gone through the day...

Three lawyers and three engineers were travelling by train to a conference.
At the station, each lawyer bought a ticket whereas the engineers bought
    only one ticket between them.
‘How are you going to travel on a single ticket?’ asked a lawyer.
‘Wait and watch,’ answered one of the engineers.
When they boarded the train, the lawyers took their seats, but the thre e
engineers crammed into a toilet and closed the door behind them. Shortly
after the train started, the ticket collector arrived. He knocked on the toilet
door and asked, ‘Ticket please.’ The door opened just a crack and a single
arm emerged with a ticket in hand. The ticket collector took it and moved
on. Seeing this, the lawyers decided to the same thing on the return trip.
So when they got to the station, they bought only one ticket. To their
astonishment, the engineers didn’t buy any. ‘How are you going to travel
without a ticket?’ asked one of the perplexed lawyers.
‘Wait and watch,’ answered an engineer.
In the train, the three engineers crammed into a toilet and the three lawyers
into another nearby. Soon after the train started, one of the engineers got out
of the toilet and walked to one where the lawyers were hiding.
He knocked on the door and said, ‘Ticket, please.’

So,what do you think?Joke of the day. I think engineers do have some cunning part in themselves.Creativity is an important aspect. Well, that's what they've been teaching us right? To think creatively an critically:)It's obvious. To do REALLY bad job,you must be REALLY smart. That's how mafias and corrupted politicians live. But, that's now what we're taught with.Honesty is the best policy!

  77. Everyone love to watch dramas and movies regardless whether it's local, hollywood, bollywood or eastern.Nowadays, the competition of making the best film and tv series is very high. The film industry is booming. I happen to watch these japanese drama series and it was a great! These dramas have many good moral values but the main one is friendship. Friendship is very valuable and to find true friend is really hard. We go through many trials which may have destroyed our friendship with someone unless we tolerate and understand each other. This is when we found our true friend. Besides the moral values shown in the drama, I like these drama a lot because they feature the most attractive and popular male actor-Toma Ikuta and Yamashita Tomohisa, and actress Maki Horikita. That's what I like best:)In what drama? Hanazakari no Kimitachi e and Nobuta wo Produce, of course!

  78. My scientist idol. I like her a lot because after knowing her life biography , she teaches me that to be successful in something, we must be persevere in what we do, never give up and willing to sacrifice in order to achieve our ambition. We ARE somebody on this planet regardless where we came from.
Marie Skłodowska Curie (November 7, 1867 – July 4, 1934) was a physicist and chemist of Polish upbringing and, subsequently, French citizenship. She was a pioneer in the field of radioactivity, the first person honored with two Nobel Prizes, and the first female professor at the University of Paris.
She was born Maria Skłodowska in Warsaw (then Vistula Country, Russian Empire; now Poland) and lived there until she was 24. In 1891 she followed her elder sister Bronisława to study in Paris, where she obtained her higher degrees and conducted her subsequent scientific work. She founded the Curie Institutes in Paris and Warsaw. Her husband Pierre Curie was a Nobel co-laureate of hers, and her daughter Irène Joliot-Curie and son-in-law Frédéric Joliot-Curie also received Nobel prizes.
Her achievements include the creation of a theory of radioactivity (a term coined by her), techniques for isolating radioactive isotopes, and the discovery of two new elements, polonium and radium. It was also under her personal direction that the world's first studies were conducted into the treatment of neoplasms ("cancers"), using radioactive isotopes.
While an actively loyal French citizen, she never lost her sense of Polish identity. She named the first new chemical element that she discovered (1898) "polonium" for her native country, and in 1932 she founded a Radium Institute (now the Maria Skłodowska–Curie Institute of Oncology) in her home town Warsaw, headed by her physician-sister Bronisława. Curie died on July 4, 1934, at the Sancellemoz Sanatorium in Passy, in Haute-Savoie, eastern France, was from aplastic anemia, almost certainly contracted from exposure to radiation. The damaging effects of ionizing radiation were then not yet known, and much of her work had been carried out in a shed without any safety measures. She had carried test tubes containing radioactive isotopes in her pocket and stored them in her desk drawer, remarking on the pretty blue-green light that the substances gave off in the dark.

  79. DETECTIVE CONAN

High-school mystery fan Shin'ichi Kudo is actually one of his high school's best minds, but he gets his reality checks from his childhood friend and almost-girlfriend Ran Mori. Nothing can keep Shin'ichi from a case, until he follows a suspicious man into a park, is accosted from behind, and fed a strange chemical which renders him unconscious. When he awakens, he has been transformed into a puny grade schooler!

The hapless boy finds a home with eccentric inventor Professor Agasa, who searches for a cure for his condition. While he's waiting to be restored to his adolescence, Shin'ichi takes on the name Conan Edogawa (borrowed from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the last name of the famous Japanese mystery writer Edogawa Ranpo). As Conan, he plays the part of the little brother that Ran never had, and helps her incompetent private-detective father solve all of the gruesome murder mysteries that come their way.
Jimmy Kudo, alias Conan Edogawa, is now physically stuck as a kid until further notice because his first lead on the Men in Black went nowhere. What's the shrunken Sherlock to do? It's elementary: elementary school.

At this early point in the series, Conan has managed to escape death, move into the detective agency, and call Rachel with his voice-altering bowtie to tell her that he's safe. With a transfer to Teitan Elementary School, it's from this semi-comfortable situation that his mystery adventures continue. In fact, expect all plot and character development to happen within cases. Volume 2 has three of them: the fire festival murder (Files 1-3), the missing person case (Files 4-7), and the haunted mansion case (Files 8-10).

Though the brilliant detective finds it painful to add "one plus one" again, he gets his old adrenaline rush of solving mysteries when Richard becomes a murderer's unwitting alibi. Equipped with super-powered sneakers, courtesy of Dr. Agasa - who proves himself very useful in this volume - Conan regains the ability to take down criminals singlehandedly. Or at least he thinks he does. The missing person case ends in tragedy, touching on Conan's greatest weakness: impatience. Conan might be cocky, but far worse is his habit of rushing to catch criminals - with or without help. While this dynamism makes Conan a hero, Agasa sagely points out that such risky business requires caution, especially where the Men in Black are concerned. This volume concludes on a lighter note by introducing Conan's new classmates, George, Mitch, and Amy, as they drag Conan into a spooky house that may or may not be haunted.

Since the story is still beginning to take shape in Volume 2 (in Japan, Aoyama is working on Volume 58), the highlights are character moments. Near the beginning, Richard expresses concern over Conan's missing parents and later wonders if Conan, who drops clever hints about each mystery, is more than what he seems. It's a refreshing break from Richard's beer swilling and Yoko worship! We also see Rachel fly into karate action again, leaping from the agency window and shattering a car door - which further proves that it's safer not to get on this girl's bad side. The dynamic between the gluttonous George, scientific Mitch, and cute Amy is not to be missed, either. Most of all, the second case's tragic ending touches the heart when, after the phantomlike Men in Black slip away, Conan tells a dying woman his real name.

  80. HIBISCUS
Healthy, fertilized plants are more tolerant of insect attacks. Be sure plants are well watered before applying chemicals. The best time to spray for insects is in the morning or evening (temperature under 80) and be sure to cover the undersides of leaves. For heavy or consistent infestations, spray every 5-7 days (4 applications) to break the life cycle. Add water soluble fertilizer and unscented liquid detergent soap to your mixture when spraying. Check for other host plants in the area that may be re-infesting your plants. Orthene and soap will control most Hibiscus pests. The honey like secretion of several insects can attract a black 'sooty mold.' While unsightly, the mold does little damage and will disappear once you treat the cause. Newly bought nursery grown plants may need to be allowed to adjust to new conditions in your yard. Grown in partial shade and well fertilized, they need to be introduced to full sun over a 7-10 day period and kept well fertilized. Plant in at least 50% sun. Rotate insecticides for best results. Never use Malathion on Hibiscus. Strong dry winds can burn leaves but they will recover.

  81. MIGRAINES
A lot of people get migraines -- about 11 out of 100. The headaches tend to start between the ages of 10 and 46 and may run in families. Migraines occur more often in women than men. Pregnancy may reduce the number of migraines attacks. At least 60 percent of women with a history of migraines have fewer such headaches during the last two trimesters of pregnancy.

Until the 1980s, scientists believed that migraines were due to changes in blood vessels within the brain. Today, most believe the attack actually begins in the brain itself, and involves various nerve pathways and chemicals in the brain.

A migraine attack can be triggered by stress, food, environmental changes, or some other factor. However, the exact chain of events remains unclear.

Migraine attacks may be triggered by:

    * Allergic reactions
    * Bright lights, loud noises, and certain odors or perfumes
    * Physical or emotional stress
    * Changes in sleep patterns
    * Smoking or exposure to smoke
    * Skipping meals
    * Alcohol
    * Menstrual cycle fluctuations, birth control pills
    * Tension headaches
    * Foods containing tyramine (red wine, aged cheese, smoked fish, chicken livers, figs, and some beans), monosodium glutamate (MSG), or nitrates (like bacon, hot dogs, and salami)
    * Other foods such as chocolate, nuts, peanut butter, avocado, banana, citrus, onions, dairy products, and fermented or pickled foods
