    Love At First Sight
    http://www.articlesbase.com/dating-articles/love-at-first-sight-252420.html

Does love at first sight exist? Two people are attracted to each other at the instance they met. At that moment, the world seems has stopped spinning and the voices around them faded away. Without any reasonable explanation, they want to know more about each other and keep in touch. They want to spend more time together. They become part of each other. Just like story in those romantic movie.

On the other thought, how can love at first sight can happened?. You might say, how can you possibly fall into someone that you don't even know? You barely know that person. You haven't even spend time with that person, how will you know that she or he is your life partner?

I can't totally deny that one of the reason making me believe in love at first sight is that it is beautiful. Honestly, it is really beautiful. Like the first stanza of the poem,

"They're both convinced, that a sudden passion joined them. Such certainty is more beautiful, but uncertainty is more beautiful still."

It never happens on me but I still want to believe in it. I wish I will have those sweet moments...Love is beautiful. Love in inspiring. Love is the strongest power. Love is magical...

  2. Applied mechanics is a branch of the physical sciences and the practical application of mechanics. Applied mechanics examines the response of bodies (solids and fluids) or systems of bodies to external forces. Some examples of mechanical systems include the flow of a liquid under pressure, the fracture of a solid from an applied force, or the vibration of an ear in response to sound. A practitioner of the discipline is known as a mechanician.

Applied mechanics, as its name suggests, bridges the gap between physical theory and its application to technology. As such, applied mechanics is used in many fields of engineering, especially mechanical engineering. In this context, it is commonly referred to as engineering mechanics. Much of modern engineering mechanics is based on Isaac Newton's laws of motion while the modern practice of their application can be traced back to Stephen Timoshenko, who is said to be the father of modern engineering mechanics.

Within the theoretical sciences, applied mechanics is useful in formulating new ideas and theories, discovering and interpreting phenomena, and developing experimental and computational tools. In the application of the natural sciences, mechanics was said by the American Nobel Prize-winning chemist Gilbert N. Lewis and the American physical chemist Merle Randall to be complemented by thermodynamics, the study of heat and more generally energy, and electromechanics, the study of electricity and magnetism.

    Hello...
I had read about an article of rock climbing. There are a lot of types...
    Types of Rock Climbing

A sport that can be done indoors on plywood climbing structures, or done outdoors on cliffs thousands of feet high, rock climbing comes in several different forms today:

    * Traditional rock climbing - Traditional climbing is the sort of climbing you typically see in movies and in nature documentaries. Connected by a rope, pairs of climbers wearing harnesses scale a rock face carrying racks of specialized equipment. As they go, the climbers place wedges, nuts and other forms of protection from their racks into cracks in the rock. The rope is hooked to these pieces of protection so that, if a climber falls, the rope catches them.

    * Sport climbing - Sport climbing is like traditional climbing in most respects, except that the protective pieces are permanently bolted into the rock. The climber doesn't have to carry protection with him/her or place it along the way. This makes sport climbing safer, faster and less expensive than traditional climbing.

    rock climbing

    * Free solo climbing - Free solo climbing is like sport climbing except you use no rope. If you fall, you die.

    * Indoor climbing - Indoor climbing is like sport climbing, except that climbers scale indoor climbing structures made of plywood or concrete and hold onto artificial handholds/footholds bolted onto the structure. The fact that it is indoors means that the height of the structure is limited by the height of the ceiling in the room. However, there are no weather problems and it is easy to unbolt the handholds and footholds to reconfigure the wall.

    * Ice climbing - Ice climbing is like traditional climbing except that the climber is scaling an ice formation (such as a frozen waterfall or a glacier) rather than a rock formation. Specialized equipment that can screw into the ice is used instead of the wedges, nuts and cams used on rock formations.

    * Bouldering and buildering - Bouldering is like sport climbing, but you are climbing on boulders (or the sides of chimneys and buildings) rather than on cliffs and crags. Because the maximum height of a boulder is typically ten feet or so, bouldering is often done without ropes.
    Wow,very interesting sport...

Do you know the relation between your two eyes? They blink, move, cry, see things and sleep together.Though they never see each other, friendship should be like that.Life is hell without friends. We must care with each other without any reason.Treasure them before it's gone.We don't know when we stop breathing,so don't waste every moment with friends as no man is an island and we need to communicate with each other and we are inter-dependent,no one can survive without others. As in the world we are live together and rely on each other, this is the way of living.Hence, don't let your friends be alone and try not to hurt them as well.

You know why God created gap between fingers? So that at someday the one who is made for you, comes and fill those gaps by holding your hands forever.LOVE is a thing that every people need.Love can be explicit and implicit.Just the matter how you show out to the one you love the most. But sometime love can be so cruel and hurt, but what love without pain. However, after the pain you will feel the happines you ever wanted.Sometime fight is the way to improve our love as it is some kind of concern. Moreover, when your love emerge,it is sometime you can even reject as it is some kind of destiny that it is meant to be.As when your love close to you don't ever let go the opportunity as once the chance disappear your destiny will be completely changed and it will be a long time to wait another one.So treasure every opportunity when it appear.Don't miss it.

Water is very essential to our body.We won't die if we don't eat for one week but if we don't drink we will be dead. Our body need water to carry mineral, blood and so on to our organs. We need water also to adjust our body temperature.Water can balance up our body temperature at a ideal level and won't let it rise so high. Our body need also water to excrete our body toxic out of our body.If lack of water it is hard for body to excrete toxic totally.Besides, water will also let the blood less concentrate and it will help decrease the blood pressure and the heart can pump the blood thoroughly to our whole body.It will also can reduce the percentage to get heart problem as heart can pup the blood with normal strength as blood less concentrate. Therefore ,water is so crucial to our life,we must as least drink 6 to 8 big glasses of water per day.Water help improve health so don't hesitate and lazy to drink water. It is good for our body.

  8. Confidence is vital as it will determine your success. When you consistently take action and change your strategy, you will get massive results and achieve your goals. However, if you lack the confidence to take action, nothing will happen.
5 reasons why people lack of confidence in themselves. Here are the 5 reasons:
    1. Society
Our society or our environment conditions human beings to do what most people do and to accept what is being offered. This has stopped most people from pursuing their dreams.
    2. Parents
Parents' responsibility is to teach their children and to guide them to who they are meant to be. Most of the times, parents take away the child individuality and inadvertently instill limiting beliefs to the child. Often the children are conformed to the view of what their parents think is correct and limited their credibility.
    3. School
Teachers have a huge influence over children and teenagers. They are powerful authority figures and peer pressure is extremely high. Because of that, most children and teenagers are afraid to do anything for fear of being make fun of by their peers.
Unfortunately, school has also divided children and teenagers into different learning tracks. They are intelligent and understand the labels that go with different learning tracks. They integrate these into their identities and those who are labeled "slow" integrate this as a limiting belief that I am a slow learner. These beliefs have shaped their reality and their whole way of being.
    4. Hypersensitivity
Hypersensitivity can lead to shyness. People become afraid of doing anything for fear of offending someone or being rejected. It is important to have confidence to do what it takes to achieve your goal and steps out of your comfort zone.
    5. Fear
Children are true dreamers. They are natural full of confident and ready to explore the world around them. They have not been trained to see their own limitations the way adults have. They will look straight into your eyes and say they want to be a superstar. In fact, what children fear are the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. Apart from these, all other fears are learned throughout their lives.
A research was conducted to find out adults' greatest fear and find out that the fear of public speaking was rated higher than the fear of death. This shows that it is a direct result of learning to fear something that does not need to be feared.

  9. I read about articles about benefits of recycling.
    (a)Economic recycling benefits
Well-run recycling programs cost less to operate than waste collection, landfilling, and incineration.
The more people recycle, the cheaper it gets.

Recycling helps families save money, especially in communities with pay-as-you-throw programs.
Well-designed programs save money. Communities have many options available to make their programs more cost-effective, including maximizing their recycling rates, implementing pay-as-you-throw programs, and including incentives in waste management contracts that encourage disposal companies to recycle more and dispose of less.

Recycling creates 1.1 million U.S. jobs, $236 billion in gross annual sales and $37 billion in annual payrolls.

    (b)Environmental recycling benefits
Every ton of paper that is recycled saves 17 trees.
The energy we save when we recycle one glass bottle is enough to light a light bulb for four hours.
Recycling benefits the air and water by creating a net reduction in ten major categories of air pollutants and eight major categories of water pollutants.
In the U.S., processing minerals contributes almost half of all reported toxic emissions from industry, sending 1.5 million tons of pollution into the air and water each year. Recycling can significantly reduce these emissions.

If you don't want world end, lets us recycling now!

  10. I read about an article of benefits of National Service.
The chidren will come out of their shells and makes lots of friends and learn a lot about different cultures.those children who depend on parents for as long as seventeen years now can be independent and have self discipline. wash their own clothes, make their own bed..learn a few skills. exercises and get to socialize..and meet a lot of other people form other places around malaysia..and learn other peoples life style and traditions. Its also a good start and might avoid cultural shock when stepping into college or university life where they go away from parents for the first time.NS is a good place to start to learn about trusting yourself and not anybody else, survival and fighter spirit, hardworking, diciplines, never give-up attitude and more.

A recent survey showed that most trainees felt the module made them more courageous, trained them to adhere to strict rules and regulations and conditioned them to be more aware of the responsibilities.

"Baby dies, drunk parents forgot to feed him"
Can you believe it? This is one of the reports in today's papers. I wonder how a parent can forget about their baby. It's their blood and flesh!!! How can they be so irresponsible?

In my opinion, if they are not ready to take up the responsibility to become parents, they should prevent from having baby. The most agony thing is the baby is just less than a month old and he is starving to death. Can you imagine that you are starving? How much more a little baby is being starved to DEATH???

Therefore, I think that we should not take up any responsibility until we are totally ready to do that.

    Hello...
I read about a health article which title is 'Fish may be brain food for teenage boys'.This article give some useful information to us.

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Teenage boys who regularly eat fish may be doing their brains some good, a new study suggests.

Swedish researchers found that among nearly 5,000 15-year-old boys they surveyed, those who ate fish more than once per week tended to score higher on intelligence tests three years later.
The findings, published in the journal Acta Pediatrica, add to evidence that fish may indeed be brain food.
Researchers believe that the omega-3 fats found in fish -- particularly oily fish like salmon, mackerel and, to a lesser extent, albacore tuna -- are important to early brain development and to maintaining healthy brain function throughout life.
Past studies have found, for instance, that children whose mothers who ate fish regularly during pregnancy tend to have higher intelligence scores than their peers, and older fish-eaters have been shown to have a lower risk of cognitive impairment.
The new study appears to be the first large-scale one to look at the effects of fish on teenagers' intelligence, lead researcher Dr. Maria Aberg, of Goteborg University, told Reuters Health.
This is important, she explained, because the late-teens are a critical period for the brain "plasticity" that underlies intelligence and emotional and social behavior. Plasticity refers to the brain's ability to reorganize the connections among cells in response to normal experience, like learning a new skill, or to injury.
The findings are based on data from 4,792 male adolescents who completed detailed questionnaires on diet and lifestyle when they were 15 years old, then underwent standard intelligence tests when they were 18.
On average, Aberg's team found, those who ate fish more than once per week scored higher than those who ate fish less than weekly. This remained true when the researchers accounted for several other factors that influence both children's diets and their intelligence scores -- like parents' education levels and the family's socioeconomic status.
"These findings are significant," Aberg said, "because the study was carried out between the ages of 15 and 18, when educational achievements can help to shape the rest of a young man's life."
It's too soon to make specific diet recommendations for teenagers, according to the researcher. "But for the time being," she said, "it appears that including fish in a diet can make a valuable contribution to cognitive performance in male teenagers."

So, ecspecially for boys after this eat more fish !!!

  13. A Slurpee is a frozen carbonated beverage sold by 7-Eleven. In 1967[1], 7-Eleven licensed the product from the ICEE Company, and began selling it as the Slurpee. Slurpee is a registered trademark of the 7-Eleven Corporation.

The Slurpee machine has a dispenser knob for each flavor at the front of a tumbler or freezer, where patrons pour their own Slurpees. When Slurpees were first introduced, the dispensing machine was located behind the counter, and the clerk on duty would be tasked with dispensing the product. Common flavors are frozen Coke and cherry, but new flavors are introduced regularly. In the early days, flavors rotated much more vigorously than in modern times. In 2007 as part of the Kwik-E-Mart promotion for The Simpsons Movie, Slurpees at 7-Elevens were renamed "Squishees" and sold in special collector cups.[2]

I love to pick article that quite related to my life. This is due to I always see my roommate always take coffee in the night and for breakfast. I also take coffee but it was so rarely. So I would like to share my reading with others. Coffee consumption has been linked to breast size reduction, and regular caffeine intake reduces the risk of breast cancer. Coffee appears to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, heart disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, cirrhosis of the liver, and gout. A longitudinal study in 2009 showed that moderate drinkers of coffee (3-5 cups per day) had lower chances of getting Dementia, in addition to Alzheimer's disease. It increases the risk of acid reflux and associated diseases. Some health effects of coffee are due to its caffeine content, as the benefits are only observed in those who drink caffeinated coffee while others appear to be due to other components. For example, the antioxidants in coffee prevent free radicals from causing cell damage.
Coffee consumption can lead to iron deficiency anemia in mothers and infants. Coffee also interferes with the absorption of supplemental iron. Over 1,000 chemicals have been reported in roasted coffee; more than half of those tested (19/28) are rodent carcinogens. Coffee's negative health effects are often blamed on its caffeine content. Research suggests that drinking caffeinated coffee can cause a temporary increase in the stiffening of arterial walls. Coffee is no longer thought to be a risk factor for coronary heart disease. Some studies suggest that it may have a mixed effect on short-term memory, by improving it when the information to be recalled is related to the current train of thought but making it more difficult to recall unrelated information. About 10% of people with a moderate daily intake (235 mg per day) reported increased depression and anxiety when caffeine was withdrawn, and about 15% of the general population report having stopped caffeine use completely, citing concern about health and unpleasant side effects.
So I think this is enough to let all of us think about coffee. It depends on us because we drink and we will accept the risk. When there is the godness there will be also the badness.

Hand washing: An easy way to prevent infection

Hand washing is a simple habit that can help keep you healthy. Learn the benefits of good hand hygiene, when to wash your hands and how to clean them properly. Despite the proven health benefits of hand washing, many people don't practice this habit as often as they should — even after using the toilet. Throughout the day you accumulate germs on your hands from a variety of sources, such as direct contact with people, contaminated surfaces, foods, even animals and animal waste. If you don't wash your hands frequently enough, you can infect yourself with these germs by touching your eyes, nose or mouth. And you can spread these germs to others by touching them or by touching surfaces that they also touch, such as doorknobs.

Thus, for your own hygiene, please wash your hand frequently. Hand washing doesn't take much time or effort, but it offers great rewards in terms of preventing illness. Adopting this simple habit can play a major role in protecting your health. Remember prevention is better than cure.

  16. WISDOM

Wisdom can be learned in 3 ways, which is from reflection, imitation and experience.
For me, the wisdom learnt by reflection is the noblest. It is because you had already known what the mistakes you had committed are. And thus, you will never make the same mistakes again in your life. This kind of wisdom needs a lot of reflection about your own behavior.

Furthermore, the wisdom that learns by imitation was the easiest way. All you need to do is just being hard working in learning. This is because you need revise again and again what you learnt from the book or lecture. The knowledge gained by it is often related to the facts that had been discovering by others….

Lastly, the wisdom gained by experience is the bitterest. That’s why the phase “no pain, no gain” say. You really need a lot of courage in admit your own mistakes, and you will remember it for all your life. This is due to it had left you a deep impression in your mind about that incident. Try to think it, if anyone is lectured you in front of public about your mistakes, I’m sure you will never forget, right? Therefore, you will be flash back to this suffer and embarrassment memory as you think about the experience gained before!!!!

  17. Convincing?!?!

Have you ever been convincing somebody before? I think that the art of convincing people is a unique wisdom. It can’t be learnt from a book or lecture. It’s only can learnt by experience of oneself.

In my opinion, I think that when you want to convince a person, the first equipment you need to equip yourself is knowledge. Without this, no one will believe in what you say because you can’t prove anything…. Thus, you must state something facts that suitable at that time situation. Other than this, your gesture is also very important when you want to convince a person. You must be confidence about yourself when you delivered a speech or talking. If you don’t have any confidence to yourself, how are you going to make others people to trust you???? Besides that, you also need to have a patience personality. You might need to put a lot of effort and its consuming time. Therefore, you need to be well prepared before you start to convincing people…

One day, LOVE and FRIEND went out together for a walk.
Suddenly, LOVE fall into a deep river…
    Why?
It is because LOVE is blind……

Then, FRIEND quickly jumps into the river to save LOVE.
    Why?
It is due to a GOOD FRIEND will always be there for us whenever, wherever and whatever we need them…..

    Unfortunately, FRIEND couldn’t find LOVE.
    Why?
It is because LOVE is too gentle, easy to lose when we did not take care of it…..

Finally, FRIEND gives up finding LOVE and leaving it alone at there.
    Why?
It is due to FRIEND will leave and ignore us if we don’t appreciate them….

  20. why people want to have their high education?
as for me, i have my reason why i want to get high education.....
first reason i want to get high education is for career purpose. from the early age my parents very often tell me that education is very important to find a good job. among my friends when i was asking them why they wanted to get their high education very often they were telling me that it is necessary to get a good job and to make a good career. i agree with them because i think that it is easier to begin my career not from nothing but with the experience and all education that i would gain in the university.
second, why i want to get high education because i enjoy studying. all my life i thought that it is very important to be independent and i was trying to be indenpendent since i was a child. i didn't like to ask my parents to help me with my homework and i was sitting with my homework sometimes till late night but i did myself understand that all must be dependent from myself nad not from someone else. i loved to study. all my life i have been though that i could almost everything if i would really want.

    Earth Hour 2009
Earth hour is a global initiative created by the World Wildlife Fund, took place worldwide on Saturday, and international landmarks showed their support by turning off non-essential lighting for one hour to make a statement about conservation and climate change. This year's Earth Hour will take place this Saturday, March 28, starting at 8:30 p.m. The event started in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and it became a global event in 2008, with participants in 35 different countries and over 400 cities. This year it has grown even more with the WWF hoping to reach 1 billion participants worldwide. Already 2,500 cities in 82 countries have committed to participate.
I think earth our is a good thing that we should support.I am proud to say that our country wholeheartedly support this event as Petronas Twin Tower turn off the lights during this event. Many iconic global landmarks from east and west have agreed to turn off their lights to celebrate Earth Hour on 28 March.Eiffel Tower, Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Sydney Opera House, and Table Mountain in Cape Town, will unite with icons such as the Merlion in Singapore, Niagara Falls, Hong Kong’s Symphony of Lights and the Shanghai Hong Kong New World Tower all going dark for one hour.
TNB says that Earth Hour campaign is good although the eletric use has reduced 550 megawatt (mw),equal to 14 million incandescant lamp (40watt each). It proves that we can make the difference .Although its just a small effort, but when we do it together, it becomes big...
So, dont stop supporting earth hour as it can help us make the world a better place...

Saturday night was Earth Hour, where folks around the world switched off the lights from 8:30-9:30pm spent their powered-down time eating meals by candle light or doing a bit of stargazing. Well this is some of the ways for us to go green again after so much pollution or green gases that we released to the air. Electric car can be an opt to go for as it won’t release harmful gases to the nature.

An electric car is a type of alternative fuel car that utilizes electric motors and motor controllers instead of an internal combustion engine (ICE). Currently, in most cases, electrical power is derived from battery packs carried on board the vehicle. Other energy storage methods that may come into use in the future include the use of ultracapacitors, or storage of energy in a spinning flywheel.

After re-discovering a 1972 electric datsun that can accelerate from 0-60 in 3 seconds, we decided that an important question hadn’t really been answered yet: how do the electric cars we’ve been hearing so much about stack up in terms of performance? Most of the machines in the world are either not available or otherwise out of the realm of possibility for most, but then again, so are most high-performance gas-powered cars. And that doesn’t keep us from admiring them.

  23. Do starfish have faces?

Starfish are not fish. They are properly known as sea stars, and are classified as Echinodermata (spiny skinned), the same phylum of invertebrates as sea cucumbers and urchins.

It's hard to have a face when you don't have a head. Sea stars, like all echinoderms, are radially symmetrical with a top side, but no front and back. They have five - or more - arms and absolutely no notion of forwards or backwards.

Sea stars have a groove running along the bottom of each arm that contains hundreds of tiny "tube feet". These not only enable sea stars to move, but are also equipped with suction cups, which allow them to grip surfaces with some of the tube feet and propel themselves forward with others. Each arm contains a single tube foot that is longer than the other feet and does not have a suction cup. When a sea star moves, this special tube is
able to sense chemicals in the water.

Sea stars have no eyes, noses, ears or heads, but they do have mouths, usually located right in the centre of the bottom of the sea star. They feast on oysters, clams, mussels, coral, fish and other animals that live near the floor of the sea. While it takes some skill for us to pry open an oyster, sea stars have mastered their technique; they wrap their arms around the oyster and use their tube feet to pry apart the oyster shell. Once there is the slightest crack in the shell, the sea star extends its jellylike stomach out of its mouth and inserts the stomach inside the shell of the oyster. The digestive juices of the stomach move into the crack of the shell while the inside-out stomach of the sea star digests its prey.

  24. I know everyone in Malaysia knows MILO. Everyone drinks MILO. Have you ever think about how its history? Let me share with you all..

MILO was developed in the 1930s during the depression when many children were not receiving enough nutrients from their daily diet.
Thomas Mayne, a NESTLÉ Industrial Chemist, created the nutritious beverage using local milk knowledge and Swiss cocoa expertise.
The name MILO was based on a Greek mythical character MILON, who was known for his strength.
In 1934 MILO was launched at the Sydney Royal Easter show.
Milo began production at the plant located in Smithtown, near Kempsey, New South Wales, Australia
Milo is supposedly high in energy, because the drink has 1,760 kJ in every 100 g of the drink. It is also for this reason that it is also marketed as the "Energy Food Drink". It is also supposed to have a low Glycemic Index (GI), that is, "33 made with whole milk, 36 made with reduced fat milk". This allows the energy in Milo to be released slowly.
The Milo website states that the drink "is high in calcium, iron and the vitamins B1, 2, 6, 12."

Milo is very popular in Malaysia, where the brand name is synonymous with chocolate flavored drinks. This drink could be found in almost every household in this country[citation needed]. This is because Milo was once used as a nutrient supplement when it was first introduced in the country, and has thus gained a reputation as a 'must have' drink for the old and the younger generations. Milo manufactured in Malaysia is made to dissolve well in hot water to produce a smooth hot chocolate drink, or with ice added for a cold drink. Milo in Malaysia is served in kopitiams and mamak stalls offering versions such as "Milo Dinosaur" (a cup of milo with an extra spoonful of powdered undissolved Milo added to it), "Milo Godzilla" (a cup of Milo with ice cream and/or topped with whipped cream) and "Neslo" (combined with Nescafe powdered coffee). It gained popularity in Singapore soon after.
One can order Milo in Singapore or Malaysia's Kopi tiams by placing an order for "Tak Kieu" ("Kick ball" in Hokkien), referring to the fact that the company has been sponsoring soccer events in the region, especially in Singapore, and has been using pictures showing soccer players. Milo with ice added is known as "Milo Peng" (alternately, "ping"), "peng" ( 冰 ) meaning ice in Cantonese and Hokkien. In Japan, Milo is marketed as a canned energy drink, available in vending machines.

Well, I think that is all about MILO..what can I say about it...hmm..everyday I drink it..and it is actually from Australia..

    hye everyone..
For this entry I would share about food again.I'm very like to read about food. This is because foods are related to our health. We must take care of our health.
For this entry I would share about Heath benefits of eating nuts.On every continent and for thousands of years, nuts have been an important food for humans, and for good reason. Nuts are good for you—they are cholesterol-free and contain healthy, unsaturated fats which can help lower the risk of heart disease. Nuts also provide magnesium, which helps maintain bone structure; and chromium, which helps to ensure proper insulin function. They contain zinc for growth and wound healing, and manganese, which protects against free radicals. All nuts are a good source of vitamin E, an important antioxidant. Like all plant foods, they are high in fiber and phytochemicals—both of which help protect against cancer and other chronic diseases.

Nuts are dried seeds that can be eaten raw, toasted, pureed, or used as flour. There are many different types of nuts—almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, filberts (also known as hazelnuts), macadamia nuts, pecans, pistachios, walnuts, and pine nuts. Two legumes, peanuts and soybeans, are often considered nuts (though this is applied to soybeans only when they are dried and toasted).

  29. What is love?
Love means to have strong feelings for someone that can be close friends, family or even someone in a romantic relationship. Love is a strong feeling that represents affection toward someone dear to you heart. Being in love usually is used in a romantic sense when you meet your significant other transforming a normal relationship into a deeper one without further interest in others. Love means that you trust the person, would do anything for the person, know that person is with you through thick and thin, isn't afraid to be seen with you. Make sure they treat you right.

  30. This is song's lyric for Gaza when there have the war. I feel so interested with that lyric written by Michael Heart.

WE WILL NOT GO DOWN (Song for Gaza)
    (Composed by Michael Heart)
    Copyright 2009

A blinding flash of white light
Lit up the sky over Gaza tonight
    People running for cover
Not knowing whether they’re dead or alive

They came with their tanks and their planes
    With ravaging fiery flames
    And nothing remains
Just a voice rising up in the smoky haze

We will not go downIn the night, without a fight
You can burn up our mosques and our homes and our schools
But our spirit will never die
We will not go downIn Gaza tonight

    Women and children alike
Murdered and massacred night after night
While the so-called leaders of countries afar
Debated on who’s wrong or right

But their powerless words were in vain
And the bombs fell down like acid rain
But through the tears and the blood and the pain
You can still hear that voice through the smoky haze

    We will not go down
In the night, without a fight
You can burn up our mosques and our homes and our schools
But our spirit will never die
We will not go downIn Gaza tonight

  31. Why do other people hear our voices differently than we do?

We have probably all had this experience. We listen to a tape recording of ourselves talking with some friends. We insist the tape doesn’t sound at all like our voice, but everyone else’s sounds reasonably accurate. According to speech therapist Dr Mike D’Asaro, there is a universal pattern of rejection of one’s own voice. Is there a medical explanation?

Yes. Speech begins at the larynx, where the vibration emanates. Part of the vibration is conducted through the air – that is what your friends (and the tape recorder) hear when you speak. Another part of the vibration is directed through the fluids and solids of our heads. Our inner and middle ears are parts of caverns hollowed out by bone – the hardest bone of the skull. The inner ear contains fluid, the middle ear contains air, and the two press against each other. The larynx is also surrounded by soft tissue full of liquid. Sound transmits differently through the air than through solids and liquids, and this difference accounts for almost all of the tonal differences we hear on a recording of our own voice.

When we speak, we are not hearing our voice solely with our ears, but also through internal hearing, a mostly liquid transmission through a series of bodily organs. During an electric guitar solo, who hears the “real” sound? The audience, the guitarist or a tape recorder located inside the guitar?

The question is moot. There are three different sounds being made by the guitarist, and the principle is the same for the human voice. We can’t say that either the tape recorder or the speakers hear the “right” voice, only that the voices are indeed different.

Dr D’Asaro points out that we have an internal memory of our voice in our brain, and the memory is richer than what we hear in a tape playback. Listening to a recording of our own voice is like listening to a symphony on a bad transistor radio – the sound is recognisable but a pale imitation.

I read an article at colourlovers.com... Its entitled Dai Fujiwara's Color Hunting.Actually, Dai Fujiwara is the creative director and fashion designer for Issey Miyake, a fashion brand. What is so special about him that he is so creative.Recently, for the Autumn Winter 2009 Collection, he and his team went on a journey to the Amazon forest to collect real colours from nature, calling it Color Hunting. They traveled with a huge collection of cloth colour samples. They tested these against trees, leaves, bark and mud to find the palette of the forest. If the colours “melted away” and did not stand out from the background, they knew they had chosen the correct ones.

Selected colours were dyed and woven into fabrics, which finally became collection pieces. This was a creative adventure resulting in a new definition of the design and production process. The river, they found, had more in common with human skin than they had anticipated. This was the point of the expedition. Dai Fujiwara told that where he had expected bold and brash colours, he had found shy, quiet, muted tones.

I think was a very good idea..exploring the forest to search for its colour and discover the beauty of God's creation...hmmm...its a good feeling.

  33. Another my favourite cartoon that I love to watch is spongebob squarepants. It was a very funny cortoon with a lot of moral values. Most of all, I was admired the spongebob creater as came out with a great idea of the spongebob cartoon. The views of the sea bottom (where spongbob and friend life) was very beautiful and colourful. The idea of the setting or the backgroud were unique and creative.
SpongeBob and his friends live in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. Bikini Bottom is like a regular city with a downtown, suburbs, coastal areas, its own airport, bus system, and fair park.

Bikini Bottom is a city that is the main setting of the series, located at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean,It is where the series' main characters live and where most of the episodes take place. The city consists of various businesses, including restaurants, stores, and manufacturers. The city has a stable economy, balanced education and health systems, a structured government, and a firm law enforcement system. There are even stadiums, amusement parks, and other recreational facilities.

Bikini Bottom's geography is shown as consisting of mountains, dense forests, lakes, lagoons, caves, grasslands, reefs, rivers, and barren desert wastelands.

The city is divided by its main road, Conch Street, which runs from downtown and past the homes of SpongeBob, Squidward, and Patrick, through the Krusty Krab, the Chum Bucket and the Reef Theatre cinema. The road intersects with Barnacle Road and Coral Avenue.Downtown Bikini Bottom is located in the northernmost point of the city, while SpongeBob, Squidward, and Patrick's House are on the southern part of the road. Goo Lagoon is located west of the road, while Jellyfish Fields is to the east. Other establishments are located more southerly, including Sandy's house, Shady Shoals retirement home, the Krusty Krab, the Chum Bucket, and the Movie Theater. The Kelp Forest is located more southerly.

In the center of Bikini Bottom, the citizens work and live in large, gray buildings made of metal. There are some other forms of buildings, mostly aquatic-themed as seen above. Further out from the town citizens need to use whatever is available and easy to live in, such as Patrick's rock, SpongeBob hollowed-out pineapple, and the Easter Island Head Squidward lives in.

Surrounding towns include Rock Bottom, New Kelp City, and Ukulele Bottom.

    Taking care of our hair

We have about 100,000 hairs on our heads. Each hair shaft has three layers, with the cuticle, or outside layer, protecting the two inner layers.

Shiny hair is a sign of health because the layers of the cuticle lie flat and reflect light. When the scales of the cuticle lie flat they overlap tightly, so the inner layers are well protected from heat, sun, chlorine, and all the other hazards that can come from living in our environment. When hair is damaged, though, the scales may separate and hair can become dry. Because the scales on dry hair don't protect the inner two layers as well, hair can break and look dull.

The type of hair a person has — whether it's straight or curly — can also affect how shiny it is. Sebum, which is the natural oil on the hair, covers straight hair better than curly hair, which is why straight hair can appear shinier.

Depending how long a person's hair is or how fast it grows, the end of each hair shaft can be a couple of years old. So the hair at the end of the shaft could have survived a few summers of scorching sun and saltwater and winters of cold, dry air. How well you care for your hair from the time it emerges from the root plays a role in how healthy it looks.

    Caring for Hair
How you take care of your hair depends on the type of hair you have, your lifestyle, and how you style your hair.

People with dry, curly hair have different hair care needs than people with straight, fine hair. But all hair needs to be treated gently, especially when it's wet. Wet hair can stretch, making it more vulnerable to breakage or cuticle damage. That's why using a hot blow-dryer (or other heat styling products) on very wet hair can damage it.

Some people find that their hair gets oily in their teen years. That's because the hair follicles contain sebaceous glands that make sebum, which moisturizes the hair and skin. During adolescence, the sebaceous glands may become overactive, producing more oil than needed. As with acne, oily hair is usually a temporary part of puberty.

Many teens care for oily hair by washing it once a day — or more if they're active. As long as you treat your hair gently when it's wet, frequent washing shouldn't harm it. If you have acne, it's a good idea to keep the hair around your face clean so hair oils don't clog your pores.

If you're washing your hair every day or more, it may be better to choose a mild shampoo instead of a shampoo designed for oily hair. For some people — especially people with fine, fragile, or combination hair (hair that's oily at the crown but dry on the ends) — shampoos for oily hair can be too harsh. If you have oily hair and want to use a conditioner, choose one that's made for oily hair.

If your hair is dry, it's a good idea to wash it less frequently. Some people only need to wash their hair once a week — and that's fine. Many people who have curly hair also have dry hair. Curly and dry hair types are usually more fragile than straight hair, so you'll need to be especially careful about using heat styling products. Shampoos made for dry hair and hair conditioners can help.

Your activity level and interests. Do you play sports or spend a lot of time at the beach? These kinds of things can affect your hair. For example, if you're an athlete with oily hair, you may want to wash your hair after working up a sweat during practice and games. But if you're a lifeguard or a swimmer, sun and saltwater (or the chlorine in pool water) can dry your hair out, no matter what your hair type. If you're exposed to sun, wind, or other elements, you may want to use a shampoo designed for dry hair or use a conditioner. It's also a good idea to wear a hat to protect your hair when you're outdoors.

Care your hair to make it more healthier whether it straight, curl, shiny or dry.

Hi.I've read about stress yesterday. I believe every person have stress. Here are some tips to reduced your stress.

    1. Eat right
Nutrition is important to do your task efficiently. Without proper nutrition, you are more susceptible to stress, thus, keeping you from functioning effectively. Remember this: taking time to eat right keeps you active and healthy, thus, makes it easier for you to do your work faster and more efficient.

One reason why you work is to have money to finance your daily needs. However, if your work limits you from enjoying life itself, meaning you cannot even eat your breakfast and take a good meal during lunch time, then, you may be missing the whole point of working.

    2. Get enough sleep
To maintain healthy physical and emotional well-being, sleep is very important. Lack of sleep on the other hand prevents you from maintaining focus on your work, handling stress, and functioning properly. Sadly, busy schedules and tons of deadlines prevent you to get enough sleep. If this is your case, try soft music, massage, meditation, bubble bath, and sex as means to invite sleep. Do not forget quick nap.

    3. Maintain a spiritual Life
Research shows that maintaining spiritual life such as meditating and praying as well as joining spiritual gatherings can reduce stress. Spiritual activities attend to spiritual calmness which as well answers emotional and physical distress.

    4. Having the right attitude pays off
Your emotional attitude towards situations and experiences in life determines your overall perception of things. When you think that certain situation negatively, your attitude will also become negative, thus, making that situation stressful for you. Becoming optimistic, meanwhile, will let you keep the stress away and attract positive energy.

    5. Find hobbies
A diversion from stressful environment is important to decrease stress as well as tension. Find one hobby you can enjoy. A hobby can turn out not only a great solution for stress reduction, but might also provide a source of enjoyment and fun for many years.

  36. Knowledge

It is related from Anas ibn Malik in al-Bukhari that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Among the signs of the Hour are the disappearance of knowledge, the establishment of ignorance, the drinking of wine and the appearance of fornication." Abu Hurayra was heard to relate from the Prophet, "Knowledge will be taken away, ignorance and sedition will appear, and there will be a lot of killing."

The first of these signs of the deterioration of humanity and approaching end of time is the disappearance of the knowledge which we are commanded to seek in words of Allah, "Say: Lord, increase me in knowledge." (20:114) The importance of knowledge and its consequences is expressed throughout the Qur'an: "Only His slaves who have knowledge fear Allah," (35:28) and "Only those with knowledge will understand it," (29:43) and "And they say, 'If only we had listened or used our intellects we would not have been among the people of the Blaze." (67:10) The list of ayats about this goes on and on. Without knowledge you will not fear Allah and will not understand, and hence are likely to end up in the Fire.

The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "If Allah desires good for someone, He gives him understanding in the deen. Knowledge is gained through learning." Abu Dharr pointed to his neck and said, "If you were to put the sword here and I thought that I could finish one sentence which I heard from the Prophet before you finished me, I would say it."

'Ali stated, "Knowledge is better than riches, for knowledge guards you while you guard riches. Knowledge governs while riches are governed. Riches diminish with spending but knowledge increases with it."

  37. Ice hockey is played on a large flat area of ice, using a three inch (76.2 mm) diameter vulcanized rubber disc called a puck. This puck is often frozen before high-level games to decrease the amount of bouncing and friction on the ice. The game is contested between two teams of skaters. The game is played all over North America, Europe and in many other countries around the world to varying extent. It is the most popular sport in Canada, Finland, the Czech Republic, and in Sweden.

The governing body is the 64-member International Ice Hockey Federation, (IIHF). Men's ice hockey has been played at the Winter Olympics since 1924, and was in the 1920 Summer Olympics. Women's ice hockey was added to the Winter Olympics in 1998. North America's National Hockey League (NHL) is the strongest professional ice hockey league, drawing top ice hockey players from around the globe. The NHL rules are slightly different from those used in Olympic ice hockey: the periods are 20 minutes long, counting downwards. There are three periods.

Ice hockey sticks are long L-shaped sticks made of wood, graphite, or composites with a blade at the bottom that can lie flat on the playing surface when the stick is held upright and can curve either way, legally, as to help a left- or right-handed player gain an advantage.

There are early representations and reports of ice hockey-type games being played on ice in the Netherlands, and reports from Canada from the beginning of the nineteenth century, but the modern game was initially organized by students at McGill University, Montreal in 1875 who, by two years later, codified the first set of ice hockey rules and organized the first teams.

Ice hockey is played at a number of levels, by all ages.

Artistic Gymnastics is the best known and most popular of the gymnastics sports governed by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). Artistic Gymnastics, typically involves the women's events of uneven parallel bars, balance beam, floor exercise, and vault. Men's events include floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and high bar. Gymnastics evolved from exercises used by the ancient Greeks, that included skills for mounting and dismounting a horse, and from circus performance skills. Other forms of gymnastics are rhythmic gymnastics, various trampolining sports, and aerobic and acrobatic gymnastics.

  39. Enthusiasm (Ancient Greek: ἐνθουσιασμός enthousiasmos) originally meant inspiration or possession by a divine afflatus or by the presence of a god. Johnson's Dictionary, the first comprehensive dictionary of the English language, defines enthusiasm as "a vain belief of private revelation; a vain confidence of divine favour or communication." In current English vernacular the word simply means intense enjoyment, interest, or approval.

    Historical usage:
Originally an enthusiast was a person possessed by a god. Applied by the Greeks to manifestations of divine possession, by Apollo, as in the case of the Pythia, or by Dionysus, as in the case of the Bacchantes and Maenads, the term enthusiasm was also used in a transferred or figurative sense. Thus Socrates speaks of the inspiration of poets as a form of enthusiasm.

Its uses were confined to a belief in religious inspiration, or to intense religious fervour or emotion. Thus a Syrian sect of the 4th century was known as the Enthusiasts. They believed that by perpetual prayer, ascetic practices and contemplation, man could become inspired by the Holy Spirit, in spite of the ruling evil spirit, which the fall had given to him. From their belief in the efficacy of prayer, they were also known as Euchites. Several Protestant sects of the 16th and 17th centuries were called enthusiastic. During the years immediately following the Glorious Revolution, "enthusiasm" was a British pejorative term for advocacy of any political or religious cause in public. Such "enthusiasm" was seen in the time around 1700 as the cause of the previous century's English Civil War and its attendant atrocities, and thus it was an absolute social sin to remind others of the war by engaging in enthusiasm. The Royal Society bylaws stipulated that any person discussing religion or politics at a Society meeting was to be summarily ejected for being an "enthusiast."[citation needed] During the 18th century, popular Methodists such as John Wesley or George Whitefield were accused of blind enthusiasm (i.e. fanaticism).

Have you ever watched someone sleep and wondered what he or she was dreaming? The person’s outward appearance would never give it away: slow breathing, eyes occasionally fluttering, but mostly the very picture of peace and stillness. But, appearances can be deceiving. When people sleep, there’s a lot more going on than meets the eye. The notion of sleep as the body’s ultimate “down time” has some truth to it, but sleep is also an active process, in which the brain can be remarkably active, even if the body remains (mostly) immobile.

    What’s Going On During Sleep?
There is much about sleep that remains mysterious, but experts divide it into two main categories, based on observations of sleeping persons and recordings of the brain’s electrical activity during sleep:
    #

Non-REM sleep– This is divided into four stages, with Stage 1 the lightest and Stage 4 the deepest.

  41. Friendship

Friendship is a term used to denote co-operative and supportive behavior between two or more people. In this sense, the term connotes a relationship which involves mutual knowledge, esteem, and affection and respect along with a degree of rendering service to friends in times of need or crisis. Friends will welcome each other's company and exhibit loyalty towards each other, often to the point of altruism. Their tastes will usually be similar and may converge, and they will share enjoyable activities. They will also engage in mutually helping behavior, such as exchange of advice and the sharing of hardship. A friend is someone who may often demonstrate reciprocating and reflective behaviors. Yet for many, friendship is nothing more than the trust that someone or something will not harm them.

Value that is found in friendships is often the result of a friend demonstrating the following on a consistent basis:

the tendency to desire what is best for the other,
    sympathy and empathy,
honesty, perhaps in situations where it may be difficult for others to speak the truth, especially in terms of pointing out the perceived faults of one's counterpart,
    mutual understanding.
In a comparison of personal relationships, friendship is considered to be closer than association, although there is a range of degrees of intimacy in both friendships and associations. Friendship and association can be thought of as spanning across the same continuum. The study of friendship is included in sociology, anthropology, philosophy, and zoology. Various theories of friendship have been proposed, among which are social psychology, social exchange theory, equity theory, relational dialectics, and attachment styles.

Friendship is considered one of the central human experiences, and has been sanctified by all major religions. The Epic of Gilgamesh, a Babylonian poem that is among the earliest known literary works in history, chronicles in great depth the friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu. The Greco-Roman had, as paramount examples, the friendship of Orestes and Pylades, and, in Virgil's Aeneid, the friendship of Euryalus and Nisus. The Abrahamic faiths have the story of David and Jonathan. Friendship played an important role in German Romanticism. In philosophy, Aristotle is known for his discussion (in the Nicomachean Ethics) of philia, which is usually (somewhat misleadingly) translated as "friendship," and certainly includes friendship, though is a much broader concept.

Wat i expect from my friends......well first i hope they will be honest. He or she should understand my feelings and respect my privacy...and they do not need any physical qualifications....as long as they are considerate and caring, i love them as my friends....i do not mind how unique they are..as long as they respect me,i respect them too.....

Let’s see how the slim and attractive slider phone holds up against the competition.

    Construction

Upon opening the packaging, I was quite impressed with what I saw. The S8300 is a nicely styled phone with metal and strong plastic components.

Picking it up in your hand and feeling the weight of it gives you the impression that it is of sturdy construction.

The slide mechanism is flawlessly smooth and precise. The battery cover is well made. And opening it just requires you to pop it out instead of forcing you to pry it open.

Upon turning on the phone and viewing the 2.8in OLED screen light up, I was impressed with the quality of the display.

Colours were bright and well represented. The screen is also supposedly covered with tempered glass to make it scratch and glare resistant.

Well, I didn’t want to do the “keys-in-pocket-with-phone” test, otherwise the nice folks at Samsung would have my head on a stake for messing up their review unit.

As for glare resistance, the screen still suffers from legibility problems under bright sunlight.

It seems that all handphone manufacturers have yet to tackle this problem successfully be it TFT or OLED screens.

The touchscreen response for a capacitive display is a mixed bag. It may be because I have not adapted from a phone with a resistive display.

Rather than just pressing with the tip of your fingers or even your fingernail, you have to use your whole fingertip (read: Skin contact) to get the screen to work.

This may be great in most situations but when the button is tiny or even a tad narrow, you will tend to miss it and will be forced to tap a few times to hit the sweet spot to activate the button.

It is frustrating at times, but let’s hope Samsung can optimise the touchscreen with firmware upgrades.

    Communication

Generally, the S8300 does what a phone should do well — its speaker is loud enough to make it heard in a crowd. Reception is also good.

As for typing SMSes, you only get the alphanumeric keypad to type your messages. There is no on-screen Qwerty keyboard.

Also, because it is not always easy hitting the correct button when using the virtual keypad, I actually found myself using the physical one quite a lot.

The keypad is not only precise but also gives you solid feedback.

    Connectivity

The S8300 is a quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G HSDPA phone. It also comes with Bluetooth connectivity to communicate with peripherals wirelessly.

There is no WiFi, although it would have been great to have it so that a user could surf the Web without having to pay exorbitant data charges. Those that have an unlimited data plan won’t find this an issue though. The microUSB port is where the charger, data cable and handsfree set all connect. This is a great step toward standardisation in handphones.

The only setback is that the microUSB port cover juts out from the side when something is connected to it. This could present a durability issue as it could break off eventually.

Maybe future designs could have the cover recessed into the body.

    Customisable

The user interface runs on Samsung’s TouchWiz UI which uses the widgets system. Widgets are very much like tiny applications or shortcuts to your most frequently used and important functions.

On the main screen you can select widgets to place on the sidebar. Dragging out certain widgets from the sidebar to the main screen lets you see the information it contains.

Some widgets are just for fun but some such as the calendar, memos and alarms are useful.

New widgets can also be downloaded to expand the functionality of the S8300.

The phone’s operating system is a tad sluggish and coupled with having to tap the touchscreen several times to activate smaller buttons, this spoils the overall user experience.

The screen-lock button on the right of the phone is also a little quirky at times.

Quite often, I found that there was a beep indicating I had pressed the button, but the screen remained dark and I had to press it a few more times to activate the display.

This could be attributed to the phone being a prototype review unit.

    Music to your ears

The S8300 gives you plenty of entertainment options alright. There’s a radio on it but that only works if you plug the headset into it. Reception on it is quite good and it scans for the stations quite quickly.

There’s a music player which has several preset equalisers. For those who shun “normal” phones in the search for music-centred phones, they’ll be pleasantly surprised that the S8300 delivers pretty good sound quality. Even the in-ear headphones that are supplied by Samsung are a joy to listen to.

The only boo-boo is the lack of a 3.5mm jack but even though I’m one of those who really like music, I found this to be just a small problem. Just plug in the handsfree controller portion of the headset and you get your jack.

Video playback is excellent. The player is simple to use and the best thing is it is able to play back the most popular video formats nowadays namely DivX, XviD, MPEG4, H.263, H.264 and WMV9.

The S8300 supports 16GB microSD cards, so there’s ample space for you to stuff in all of your songs and movies.

    Photo and video capture

The 8-megapixel camera has autofocus, face and smile detection, a single-LED flash, and options you would expect to find on a good compact camera.

The user interface of the camera is excellent with all of the functions readily available on the touchscreen.

Granted that this is a cameraphone, the pictures are good enough but don’t expect it to compete with a dedicated camera.

The JPG compression does tend to oversmoothen the images sometimes.

After taking your photos, you can view them in the touch optimised photo gallery. Tilting the phone left or right or sliding your finger across the screen shows the next and previous photos.

Video recording is excellent. The auto white balance was especially impressive as the recording application managed to adjust itself when shooting from bright to dark scenes.

    Cool extras

There is a built in document viewer which opens Excel, PowerPoint, Word and PDF files.

The built-in web browser also works quite well. You can also send and receive e-mail messages on the S8300.

There is also GPS with aGPS support. You can use the Google Maps application to pinpoint your location. GPS support also allows you to geotag the photos that you capture.

All said even though the productivity tools are simple, the functionality is there to help you out when you’re out of the office and really need something done urgently.

Sadly, the S8300 comes with an underpowered 880mAh battery. If you were to use your phone heavily in the course of the day, expect to charge it daily.

Don’t even think about using it until the low battery indicator beeps because that just means you have one hour of standby power left. It’s best to charge it when you see it at two bars of energy.

You can charge the phone via the charger which plugs to the microUSB port or charge it when it is attached to your PC via the data cable.

    Conclusion

While the stylish Samsung S8300 excels in call and voice quality, multimedia applications, camera and video capture, I just couldn’t help but feel let down by a few things.

The user experience could have been improved if the on-screen buttons were just a tad bigger. The operating system could also have been faster.

Worst of all the battery here is one of the main issues.

I’m not even sure if a person who relies heavily on making a lot of calls a day can even rely on the 880mAh battery to take him through the day.

Maybe Samsung could have put in a 1,000mAh or even a 1,300mAh battery.

So, the S8300 is a good phone but it could have been a great one if the company managed to polish it up a little.

Hopefully they can improve on the buggy aspects of the Samsung S8300 and integrate the improvements into their upcoming Omnia HD later this year.

Pros: Great screen; excellent camera; lots of multimedia features; strong build.

Cons: Underpowered battery; slightly clumsy and sluggish user interface; no WiFi.

  44. 5 Ways to Stay Healthy For the Holidays

    1. Fend off germs. Family gatherings, airports and travel stops, shopping malls, even the library during finals week — they're all places germs like to mingle. So protect yourself: Get a flu vaccine and wash your hands a lot. The holidays are all about sharing, but some things you'll want to keep to yourself: forks, spoons, and drinking utensils. People can be contagious before they know they're sick, so even just a sip from someone's drink puts his or her germs in your body.

    2. Eat healthy and be merry. Holiday foods can be high in calories and low on the nutrition you need to battle germs and boost energy. Make it a priority to eat five or more fruits and vegetables a day (choose the whole fruit instead of juice so you feel full longer and avoid added sugar). Carry an apple or a bag of baby carrots so you always have a healthy snack available. And don't give your exercise routine a holiday. Exercise gives you energy in addition to burning calories.

    3. Chill. "Can I afford it?" "Will it be perfect?" Even things we look forward to, like parties or gifts, can come with worries attached. If you feel stressed out, stop what you're doing for just a moment. Take five deep breaths — all-the-way-down-to-your-belly deep. Concentrate on each breath as you inhale and exhale. Walk over to a window and look out at the sky. Then go back to what you were doing, realizing that holiday drama will happen. Just hope it leaves you with some great stories to tell.

    4. Beat the blues. Holiday depression doesn't just happen in songs. For some people, it's seasonal, brought on by shorter days, longer nights, and colder weather. Other people are going through difficult life events like a breakup or a move. If you feel down, go outside, even if it's cold where you live. Sunlight and exercise are great mood lifters. Try a seasonal activity to put you in the holiday spirit, like ice skating or neighborhood carol singing. And don't hesitate to talk to someone you trust, like a parent or teacher, about how you're feeling.

    5. Get some Z's. Getting 8½ to 9 hours of sleep a night during the holidays can help strengthen your immune system, give you more energy, and make you less vulnerable to stress.

Laugh and enjoy yourself — the holidays only come once a year.
